ive actually seen a white one for sale i like
what is the top speed on them ? do they have a short ratio box hance the good acceleration ! but i take it they aint got much top end ?
ideally i could do wwith 155-160 top end ! but i suppose if the 0-60 is around 4.3 i can bite me lip with the loss at the top end
just had an insurance quote on 1998 sti type r 2dr.
My Ek9 civic type r is 780 and the sti is 967
so im very impressed !

Another option for 2 doors is the P1.
Doesnt have dccd, does have abs.
Suspension and gearbox ratio changes by Pro-drive.
Classed as a UK car, I think insurance is cheaper (best check)
0 - 60 in 4.7 ish, top speed 155 but best not to go there for very long,
110 -130 sustained is ok.
1000 made all sonic blue, which is a major draw back if you want a white one.

DCCD is quite important m8, it allows you to alter the power bias front/rear. This enables you to have more oversteer/understeer, depending on the road and what mood your in!
Impreza's, in general, understeer from the factory. The type r is the only classic that has dccd. So, as I said, it is quite important, and is one of the main reasons a lot of people buy the type r.
Regarding top speed, the type r has a final drive speed ratio of 19mph/1000rpm. So with a 8250rpm limit, the top speed (before you run out of revs) would be 19x8.25 = 156.75mph. This compares to the 4 door equivilent sti which has 22mph/1000rpm giving 181.25mph. This speeds are only theoretical, but give you an idea of how they would be on th motorway for example!
I have a 4 door sti 4. I find that quite hardcore, so you really have really got want a type r, especially if you intend to use it everyday.

Go to the members gallery and search for 'type r'. Loads in there. I think you can put up to 65% to the rear wheels. Most imprezas are 50:50. Just out of interest, have you had any insurance quotes yet?

Just checked my earlier statement, no mention of Prodrive changing gearbox ratio's so must have dreamt that.
With regard to suspension changes Prodrive simply say they tried 22 different spring/damper combinations and settled on "specific Prodrive-developed spring, damper and geometry settings".
