Default 06 Spec C

Hi All,

Have just returned from David Hendry in Malmesbury. We went to view the 06 Spec C car that he had in stock. We were very impressed indeed, the set up he has is 1st class, he is extremely knowledgeable and was prepared for our visit which was refreshing.

The car we looked at was red and I have to say I was very impressed, from a specification point of view it has everything we would want. The test drive was actually in an 06 STI ZLC Spec car (I hope I got that bit right).

The performance was excellent, bearing in mind we were 3 up and the car felt very planted and direct.

Needless to say we shall be continuing discussions on Monday.

Catherine,

if you do decide to go ahead then I am confident you will very much enjoy the car.

Now that mine has had it's first service and has been set up it is simply fabulous.

It is quick, so responsive as well as grippy and planted.

I look forward to hearing your first impressions

Rannoch

PS I have no idea what a STI ZLC Spec car is - but there again I am no expert.

Catherine... I'm getting very tempted to trade in my 2002 STI to get a spec c... I was going to try Litchfield Imports. How do DH compare? Have they got many Spec C's in stock?

They have 2 currently in stock. A blue one and a red one. The crystal grey one he mentioned was a 2005 car. We are going to go for the red one.

His stock of STI's and WRX's was very impressive. There was a WRX saloon there in the most fantastic shade of pale blue metallic, I have never seen a Subaru in this colour.

As I now have experience of David Hendry & Litchfield's I would be quite happy to buy from either. The test drive today was a good one in terms of length, David as mentioned earlier clearly knows his product. He has a lot of cars for immediate delivery. My suggestion is give him a call and make the decision for yourself.

If you look at the pictures hosted by Puff in an earlier post this week, you will seen the pictures that were sent to me of the Spec C.

Default spec c

Make sure you get a remap for UK fuel . I would suggest you ensure any supplier of a new spec c does this .

Can anyone tell me the best place to get an insurance quote for the car. Privilege don't have it on their list of cars.

Yes - call Tom at Schofield Insurance - he can sort you out - although being a broker you will have to wait until Monday now. He got cover for me. You will probably need a Tracker/Trackstar installed though.

Glad you have sorted the TVR issue, Schofields wouldn't touch my T25 this year but A-Plan came up trumps with a 50% reduction on last years premium and the same for the Forester STi.

Catherine, A plan cover my Spec C and they are very reasonable
As for a remap, you dont need one, just add octane booster to your optimax but what you do need, remap or not is a knocklink

Yes David said I didn't need a remap for UK fuel.

Thanks for suggestions on the insurance.

David Hendry doesn't believe in re-maps. It doesnt of course mean he is right though.

I would suggest a chat with Ian Litchfield, he is a nice guy and will not give you a bull**** answer.

Personally I dont think the car will make good BHP without the re-map.

Catherine,

Just to say that I have first hand experience of David Hendry cars, and of David himself and his son, Andrew. You will not be disappointed.

Some good driving roads by where he is, would you not agree?

Kind regards,

WB

PS Are you going to prt ex the TVR then? Last time I was their they were a TVR dealership. Not sure if that is still the case.

Yes he does have some fast roads around Malmesbury, certainly good for test drives. Although the quality of road is pretty much typical of Wiltshire's roads in general - bad.

Yes he is still a TVR main dealer as well so he can help us out with the part exchange.

The ZLC is just the model code that describes the top of the range Japanese STI.

Catherine, You won't have any problems with David especially as you've got a TVR to p/x. I've known David since I was at school I would however recommend getting the Ecu remapped.

Hey Iain how you doing? Still not decided to lend me a spec C for the ring yet?

I bought my scoob from Hendry's and as said they are ok. Took my TVR and 172 in PX.

My only criticism is that David stops talking to you the moment you have handed your cash over. No different from any other salesman though I guess. Andrew Hendry (after sales) is a top guy though.

I just run my 03 Spec C on optimax and octane booster, though i do have a knocklink fitted, the ecu will retard bad fuel down better than the classic STi's and even with a remap you can get det on bad fuel (my ecu retarded itself down to x8 from x16) but i would never run the car just on super unleaded or optimax, id always add octane booster.

Hi Iain, thank you for your advice and comments regarding David, it is good when those in the know confirm your own thoughts.
