Default changing ecu

looking at buying a different ecu off ebay which increases the boost up to 1.1 bar on my 94 wrx import.what i need to know is it mentions i may have to start soldering an ic? plug onto the motherboard or there may just be a straight swop/plug in? any advice on how to do this on my particular car and is it really as easy and safe as people say? any1 done this previous?what kind of increase in bhp would i be looking at,with an increase from 0.
88bar to 1.1bar?is it worth the hassle/expense?ie is it noticeable?cheers for advice
