Default Confused Police, & Subaru Bonnets.

My Wife was Stopped last Night, She was told the following.
The Numberplates are Illegal And Must Be Changed, The Sunstrip Is Illegal and Must Be Removed, The Bonnet is Illegal and Must Be Removed.
When she asked why the bonnet is Illegal, he said the Scoop is Dangerous, if she were to knock someone down they could rip thei fingers off in the scoop.

She tryed to explain that a scoop is standard for a Subaru Impreza, He told her to Stop Arguing, he knows the Law, and it is Illegal And MUST Be removed.
She said again, Every Turbo Subaru has a Scoop, he said No they do Not. If i see any with one they will remove them or the will face Prossecution.
I have Just Phoned Police and Made a Complaint.
Told them I Want a Traffic Office to Come arround, and Inspect My Vehicle.
Then I Got a Call From a SGT, Who Does not Know Anything about Scoobys Either.
Tryed to get me to drop the Complaint, by saying, i am happy to go ahead with the complaint, however you should be aware, after i have spoken to the officers, I am sure they will be a little unhappy, and could mention it to their collegues, although we like to think it does not happen, but in reallity, it does, the other officers, will try to find anything wrong with your Car. and they Will Prossecute.
But it Is Down to you.
I said it is ok I will Continue, and if i do get Harrassed, I will Speak To an Inspector about a Harrassment Complaint.
He is going to have words with the two Officers, and start the complaints Process.
It is Pathetic. And i think they had nothing better to do.
He started picking Faults after Sally Denyed being pulled over earlier in the evenng for the Blue Side Lights. She tryed to Explain it was our next door Neighbour (Mr H) who had the same lights. he argued with her, and told her she must tell them in future if she has already been stopped, when she tryed protesting her innocence again, then he got funny.

half the police officers are a waste of space these days!

i once watched a guy run over to a police van because his car was being broken into and they waved him away!!!! (no joke)

imagine all scoob owners having to remove their bonnet scoop!! lol

Cue a few police offers denying this sort of thing happens, or that the officer was just having a bad day any to ignore it............

I'm a police officer and I won't deny this sort of thing can happen .... some of the officers being employed now are an absolute joke!

It's a shame - I worked hard to get in the job but meet officers now who can hardly spell or write. When I see it I challenge it - personally I find it embarassing.

If you encounter it complain.... thats all I can say really - I mean, when you've been told to remove the scoop off your Impreza bonnet ...... I think I give up !

The cop does sound like a complete *****, but what gets my goat is folk immediately tarring everyone with the same brush.

I try hard to convey a decent and fair image in my job and these kind of incidents don't make the process easy.

Remember that cops are just members of society doing a job, so naturally there will be a large number of ******, just like any job. Law of averages and all that.

Bit like saying ALL Scooby owners are chav-fcukwits eh?

So if you hit someone the scoop could break their fingers?
Sure they're be more worried about broken legs, arms, neck, back etc to wory about a few painful fingers!!!
Bet the officer doesn't pull over 4x4's and make them take their bull-bars off!!!

Is the number plate and sun strip illegal? or are all the items a figment of the police officers imgaination?
I am afraid that this doesnt make good reading, these things are just so unimportant in the general scheme of life that it is sad to see man so intolerant of himself.

That policeman sounds an absoulte fcukwitt and an envious one at that, simply abusing his so called position of authority to make up rules on the scoop like that !
Why is this person allowed to keep this postion of authority ?
Defiantely complain !

And the police wonder why the public image of them is rubbish.
John57 seems a balenced individual though !

I would be serverly tempted to inform the local press of this as well.

Would the car pass an MoT in it's current condition?

Scoop should be no problem - it's Type Approved!

Sunstrip could fail an MoT if too deep.

Number plate could fail if too small, incorrect font etc.

If you reckon nothing has changed since the last MoT (or it would pass in it's current condition) then the police officer is completely wrong, and I think you would have grounds for complaint if they pushed for prosecution. Indeed, what did the officer do, issue a defect notice?

in all my years of driving(20) i have to admit that on the whole i've been treated VERY fairly by the police, even after having done some very stupid things .
but this officer really does sound like a complete idiot, good on you for not backing down.

my wife works in a homeless hostel. And inevitably the homless will turn to drink and drugs to console themselves, and some of them are homeless as a result of their habit

as a result, there are drug raids almost weekly at this place, and she knows about half of leicestershire police force by first name.

And some of them are really nice lads, others are complete tards and love nothing more than pulling you over to give you a good going over just to see if they can find something wrong with your car

just like some of the idiots you saw on traffic cops on BBC1. Some of them spent their time driving round the estates of sheffield looking for joy riders, others spent their time driving round the city centre perscuting minor offenders eg no seatbelt, using a mobile etc..

you apear to have met one of the tard variety

Go ahead and complain and make a complaint about the sargent warning that if you proceed other colleagues may become aware!

Its a shame your wife didnt argue till she was blue in the face about the scoop! i mean come on this cop hasnt a clue and if it was me i would of persisted all the way to prove that the scoop stays whether he likes it or not!

And if your wife had of been stopped earlier that night then wouldnt they have a record of that??
Put everything down in writing as events unfolded and actual words said. Let us all know what the outcome is

I agree unfortunately the job attracts a certain number of power happy *****. Allot of them end up in traffic stopping nice normal members of the public, and not criminals. Personally if your not a criminal and your not drunk, or driving like a complete w***ker I'll leave you alone.
Unless you've Halfrauds your scooby, in which case you deserve your car taken away from you. Why do people insist on ruining a perfectly good car????
