Question from 172 to evo or STi?? Help!*

Hello, thoughts appreciated

My wife has a clio 172 cup sport, but we have just had a second child and she can't get two car seats and push chair and gubbins in the car
I enjoy driving the clio at weekends and have modified a few bits (exhause, induction, grills, dtm splitter etc), but we need to chop it out for something bigger.
Thoughts are STI Or, Evo and I would appreciate some feed back from people who have experiance of both or suggestions for alternative options, price range circa £15K.
I have a good local Mitsi garage, Scoob garage just closed and reopened selling honda, would like to buy from dealer/garage as don't want to give stranger £15K!

Want nothing slower
only does 4K p/a so economy not important

Alright Mate,

Both comparable cars, personally i would go for the STI for nothing more scientific than the fact i prefer them.

Only thing that really differs on these cars on a maintenance / economy level is servicing with much shorter intervals on the evo, apart from that as far as i'm aware its swings and roundabouts as far as insurance, tyres, MPG etc goes.

Its really a personal preference thing, take out both and see which you prefer, have fun!!

WRX STi PPP it is then but probably a 2002 plate for 15k

Also you may be able to get a MY05 WRX PPP for that sort of money.

Cheers

I'm going to suggest an EVO

OR

Or an Sti PPP AND a vascetomy (Sp?)

Reason? Either option will make sure you don't have any more surprises and the car will make you smile!

2 months ago i did just exactly what you're thinking about ...
chopped the 172 for a 2003 black STi main reason
1) i've wanted a scooby for god knows how long
2) my new scoob was in my local Renault dealer so i got a good deal on the 172
... paid £15k for the scoob STi with PPP, 25k on the clock and got a service, 2 new tyres, lifetime trackstar subscription and an extra years warranty from the dealer.
needless to say i was very made up and now driving my dream car - nothing wrong with the 172 great affordable performance but this scoob is in a different league

Both really good cars but I would choose the STi if you havent already owned a turbo car in the past, the Evo is a better car in my opinion, But the Scooby is a better car to live with and slightly cheaper to run, when I looked at a Evo last year, insurance was a nightmare with £5k quotes, and I was told that parts where very expensive compared to the Scooby, Also a lot of people will say that the Evo's suspension is really hard compared to the STi, I prefered this but would your wife or kids.

£15k would also get you a 2005 WRX with less then 10k miles on the clock.

Due to our first child I chopped in my S1 Elise for a 05 STi PPP, I did look at a couple of EVO's but felt they were more track orientated & thought the Scoob was a better bet for everyday use (missus wasn't keen on the EVO either) Glad with went with the STi, great for everyday & also very fun when you want it to be

go for the evo should be able to get a 54 plate evo 8 (260) for 15K lot rarer than the scoob. Then being the base model you can mod it to your spec. For 2K you can get 360 bhp 360 lbft (that's more than the FQ400

had a scoob and changed it for the evo and would never look back part from the servicing. Wife has a 182 both great cars.

MrJud - thanks for your contructive comment !
but when the fronts where still legal and the rears not why replace all 4?
6 weeks and one track day later the fronts where gone so i replaced 'em and now have 4 tyres with pretty much even tyre wear - when ready all 4 will get replaced then.

If you can live with 4500 miles between services then there is not much between them really. Just personal taste. The cronic service intervals was the deciding factor for me though. Its a bit ridiculous for a modern car to need serviced every 4500 miles to be honest. Other than that i think EVO's are seriously nice. Correct me if im wrong but I thought that the mpg was worse in the EVO???
