Default Accidents and Metal Implants....

Just wondered if anybody else has any nasty experience of these?

In 1999 one of my mates passed his test and had a nova first car (no rear seat belts) he picked me and my best mate up from ripley and on the way back lost control round denby pottery corner doing about 80mph and hit a lampost.

I got ejected out the quarter panel window behind driver and my best mate in the back went through the back window. Carnt really remeber a lot about it apart from a lampost coming towards my face so fast and a bang. Can remember coming round and the car was about 10 metres away from me and my best mate was lying about 20metres away from me and maybe 10 from the car.

Anyway to cut a long story short i ended up having to have inside my femur bone drilled out and a metal bar put in because it shattered that bad, 2 screws and bolts at the bottom and just a screw in the top. Also had a plate in my pelvis because that was broken and twisted as well as 4 fractured ribs and cheek bone.

Has anyone else got metal in them? i have pain in winter when going from outside cold to inside hot, and have heard its beacuse the metal expends!!??

Thought my body would be used to it by now...

My girlfriend has a metal plate in her cheek and a few screws that feel focking awful, she broke her eye socket in a car crash involving her metro (tut tut) and a 2 day old escort in 1995....all she remembers is getting some cigarettes and getting back in the car that night...scary!!

Bob

ps: theres a little scar in her eye brow aswell, shes just told me her steering was the culprit and it was up in the air horizontal.

Nothing on your scale, but I have a screw in my ankle. Broke the bottom inch or so off my fibula playing soccer about 20 years ago (twisted my foot through 180 degrees - not pretty) and they had to screw it back on.

I used to have similar problems (discomfort rather than pain), but it has mellowed over time. I don't know whether this is me getting used to it or some physical effect (bone growing over the screw head?).

I had my shoudler 're-built'. They wrapped the ball of the socket joint in very thin metal to ensure a tight fit and then held it together with a couple of screws, at the top of the shoulder joint and collar bone, and chicken wire. No joke!

The screws have come out now because the shoulder has 'healed'. Too much rugby when I was younger and too many dislocated shoulders. I the end the shoulder would fall out of place and during my last game of rugby I managed to rip the ligaments holding the collar bone and shoulder joint together.

I aches in the winter and I've been told that I'll be getting premature arthritis but at least it moves without falling out of the socket.

I woke up late in the night after the operation and couldn't feel my shoulder, at all! I cr*pped myself as I didn't realise they had put a nerve blocker in to relieve the pain. I thought they'd taken my whole shoulder!!
