My mum just bought a subaru.
Hi all i was wondering if u could help me and mum as she has bought a 1995 Impreza RA not sti RA and wanted to know a few things.
1.its an import from japan that a garage bought and sold to us and the steering does lock wen u take the key out like her old polo does. is this a japanese tthing or just with RA.
2.For some reason on the passenger side front wheel the arch is closer to the tire than the other corners by at the maximum of 4mm is thismajor problem.
The good thing is tho that its going back to a garage that the car dealership has set up this saturday so if u could tell me and my mum before hand wot the possibilities of these problems are we would be grateful so we dont get conned as so far the bloke from dealership said wen the fron passengerside wheel rubbed was it was due yo weight.

Hi
1. Not sure about the steering lock as i own a newage uk car.
2. The wheel should never rub unless you have an elephant sat on the arch. He is telling you porkies. If you have the car take it in to a garage for a quote on what needs fixing, that way you know exactly whats up with it.
If you havent paid for it, dont! Theres plenty good ones out there.
These can be expensive cars to maintain especially if badly looked after.
Take care or you will get burnt fingers.

1. My car is jap imoprt and the steering wheel does lock.
2. Try swapping the front wheel with the back wheel of the passanger side. If the gap is now at the back, you just have something wrong with that wheel.
......get the stock suspension, I bet the rid would be too hard especially for your mom.

I would imagine that if you can't get your hand between the arch and the wheel it will be too low and too hard for UK roads. Be horrible to drive on anything other than smooth tarmac and you'll probably find that if its got really hard suspension the top turrets will be bent.
Happened to my GTIR. Suspension was so hard the front top turrets were out of shape from the impacts not being absorbed by the shock.
If its from a dealer take it back and ask for your money back. AFAIK you should be entitled to your money back. Get the money and buy a decent UK Impreza. Imports are great but you need to take more care when buying and running them.

Maybe not. Theres a girl (well looks early 30s) in town and she has a MY99 UK car.
So although unlikely its not impossible. My GF wants my Impreza. She can raise about £6,500 which is enough for an older STI4. Shes going to buy that and then we are swapping cars. I'll take the STI and she will take my UK car.
Well, thats the plan anyway

If u must know the reason my mum bought a subaru is for 2 reasons
1.She has liked the look of them for years and never thought bought affording one
2. I found out when i was 17 that i have tunnel vision and some genetic condition called retinitus pigmentosa which means my retana is slowly dieing meaning ill go blind and my mum asked what car i would of had if i could drive next minute i know she said to me shes gonna look at 1 would i like to help her pay for it so i said yes of course.
