Default Cold Start Ticking Noise??

Only on very cold mornings does this noise appear, its a lite ticking noise from the engine, then goes after 30secs of gentle driving up the road. Is this just normal from a cold engine or should I get the garage to look at it.

It doesn't do it on idle just when there are a few revs.

It may be down to the oil viscosity. Lower "w" denoted oils circulate much more quickly when cold so if you are using say a 15w oil then it will not get around as quickly as a 5w oil.

Cheers

The car is an 05 model(54 plate), It had just had a service 100miles ago before I brought it. Yet some mornings I never hear it, only on very cold days.

Really need to know the year and model of car as earlier versions had hydraulic valve lifters and this sounds typical of a lifter not pressurising straight away.

Just seen the above - won't be a lifter problem then!

Just phoned the garage and asked what oil they use, said " shell helix, 5/40. Also said very normal on cold mornings, as long as it stop after 30sec or so, once the oil has had time to rise from the sump and circulate round the engine".
