Thinking of getting an evo 8 and selling RB5
Help needed. My RB5 is getting into it's 7th year now and I am thinking of an EVO 8. I know this isn't probably the best place to ask, but who else has had these thoughts and made the move????

I think a lot of the old scooby boys have made the move round where i live. They used to be loads of scoobies where i live but now they seem to be more evo's (especially 7's and 8's). I think they have all had the same idea and moved from scoobies to evo's thinking they are less popular although now they seem to be really comon where i live

Also thinking of a MY04 sti 8. Problem is I might have agood p/ex deal with an EVO 8.
Trading an RB5 in is hard as dealers always price it as a standard classic....
Just looking for someting a bit newer as the RB5 is starting to costs. Needs new disks, pads and a clutch.

In terms of performance, handling and the whole driving experience I doubt you'll be disappointed with the Evo - I went from MY00PPP to Sti02PPP to MR FQ320 and generally (see my other post about the steering...) did not regret the transition at all.
I can sympathise with the decision to move on from a 7 year old car. If you are going to remain within the Subaru fold, would it not make more sense to stretch to a MY05? Dynamically there's little to separate the MY02 Sti from the MY04. Coming from the RB5 I think the MY04 would feel like a retrograde step. At least with the MY05 you have Spec C geometry and DCCD. I tested a MY04 and thought it to be the same understeery compromise that my 02 Sti was.
If you go down the Evo road, you'll probably not look back but be prepared for the increased running costs and if you're weak willed like me, the temptation/desire to start modding is even more addictive than in Scoobyville... be warned...!
Steve.

As someone who has done the move, my advice would be to go for an 05 Sti PPP. The Evo is a marginally better car like fort like, however the 05Sti is a better car than the 8. If you were talking MR or IX then different as i said.
Also take a look in the for sale section of the MLR, it's pretty horrific the prices people are asking and they are still not selling.

Only ever driven a Evo 7 RS for about 30mins, and I must say I was really impressed if it was my second car, and I didnt have to worry about the rear diff knocking, and the spongy brakes, Dont know what the rest of the Evo range is like, but this 7 RS went like a rocket, but felt more like a proper Rally car then it did as a Road car.
Id certainly have a Evo if I could afford one, but I think its one of the those car you have to own.

evo's less character than a scoob - like comparing a jap 4 bike engine with a Ducati twin, however they do seam a lot rarer than the scoobs and resale values hold up much better.
My cuz has a Evo8 300 and I have a 54 STI (up for sale at around £15500 - 16K) we swop for a blast now and again not much to choose between really.

The only advice is to test drive one and see if you like it mate. BUT you should also test drive a PPP STi or maybe even a JDM Scooby to make sure that you wouldn't just prefer a newer and more powerful scooby.
