Hi, just thought Id introduce myself! Im the new owner of a 98 2 door sti and cant believe how much fun it is to drive! Its fairly standard but does have a few zero sports goodies. I was also wondering if anyone could explain the whole diff control thing, and what the difference is in the sti and wrx engines are?

STi engines have uprated internals and some extra ponies IRO 280bhp where WRX is usually IRO 240bhp IIRC. The diff controller lets you move the power more to the rear, but when and where this works best is probably best answered by someone with experience of it, as I have none.
