Default Kerbed my alloys

Kerbed my alloys tonight - took a left hander a little tight and there was a p*ssing kerb stone on the edge...surrounded by grass in the middle of the friggin moors in the middle of friggin nowhere!

Don't I feel like a tw*t!

Nicked the tyre and carved the outer edge of the alloy down to the metal...took car to 100 after an inspection ( on a private road) - everything seems ok..steering is straight, doesn't drift and brakes straight but I'm guess my tracking will probably be out of wack..

Anyone know how much these things are likely to cost ? - !7" Gold specials for the WRX300

If it's fixable, £60 or so to rebuild the 'missing' bit of alloy and repaint..

New wheel for a WRX £199 inc VAT, so should be about that.

  • Wheel repair - £40 - £60 depending on company used and amount of damage
  • Wheel replacement - eBay or SN should turn something up for a reasonable amount of £££
  • Wheel alignment - ~£50 (+VAT) for full geometry at Powerstation

Thanks Guys...

Got them down to the place that refurbs them to sort em out !! It's really only scrubbed the outer lip in places so shouldn't be too expensive...

Tell you what though - finding a place for an axle stand at the rear of the car was a serious problem.I can jack it up but then where to stick the stand! - all looks so fragile!....in the end I went with the space saver on the rear and axle stands on the front...

oh and my wife added lovingly "I hope that has now curbed your enthusiasm"

Trap2Terrorist - Would you reccomend getting a full geometry done on it ?

drove ok at 100mph...what worries me about going to powerstation is if I end up there I'll be asking for them to 'dampen' down the body roll, stiffen the suspension, etc etc!!!

If your anywhere near Barnsley in South Yorkshire I can't recommend Metal Magic highly enough, they did a fantastic job on my wheels (Previous owner couldn't drive I think ), let me know if you need their details...

The stand points are those two largeish triangular shaped plates with a bolt head at one end, just inboard of the normal jack points. Use a block of wood on them though..

Hi mate,

I would recommend getting the geometry done, even without the whack the wheel's just taken.

It's hard for me to say exactly how much the geometry changed my car because I had Eibach springs fitted at the same time.

However the overall improvement is superb and some of the lads that I know from South Wales have had just the geometry done and noticed a good improvement in the way the car responds in corners, etc.

You may even find that your service book recommends getting geometry done occasionally, in addition to the normal servicing. (mine does anyway).

Is there anyone in the North Lincolnshire area who sorts alloys?

Mine are a mess!

Ted.

How much did it cost you to get them done, if you don't mind me asking? (how much per wheel).

£80 total for the job (I kerbed both left hand wheels - front one VERY BADLY!)...

They are now literally 100% indistuinguishable from the others...Incredible.
