EVO 7 at S-Pod, very slow......
#2
Evo7 Slow?? I think they're fipping quick, much quicker than the Evo6.
While coming back from the Ring, Rich R and myself dragged out from some crappy services onto the motorway slip road, by the time I hit a ton, he was passed me and shooting off into the disctance.
I've got a quick MY00. Evo6's don't usually do that. Rich's car did barstward.

evo 7, same engine but weighs more than evo 6. hmmmm
how is that going to be quicker?
Plus it is more restrictive on exhaust due to greater emissions regulations, although it doesnt bend round the car so much now.
There is no way the 7 as standard is quicker than the 6.

Adam,
Your a bit wrong I'm afraid. It's exhaust, although inherently poor by design, is actually infinitely more efficient than the 6 by default. The 7 may also benefit from titanium turbo (although standing starts may not be evident of this)
Please remember that it is practically impossible to get a perfect launch for an Evo. Their setup with layout and clutch mean that the clutch is ridden so badly that in order to get a decent take off, you need to be absolutely brutal and in doing so, you will **** your transmission etc.
Far easier to launch a Scoob.

well blowdog, thank you for correcting me.
I missed out the crucial letter "b" on the word bends. I was suggesting that although the inherent design is better flowing than the 6 and the exit side of the car has now changed, the more stringent emissions mean that the standard catted exhaust is more restrictive than before hand.
Further to this, it is still a heavier car than before even though the new shape impreza no longer has the weight advanatge of the old car.
They strengthened the evo 7 considerably and increased torsional rigidity by implementing more bracing. The weight increase this brought along was offset by extensive use of aluminium for body panels, although the balance was not entirely addressed.

Were these times an average over several runs, or just one pass?
Did the driver get a good launch and reaction time? Did he miss a gear? Was he being careful with his new toy? Was he trying hard to post a decent time? Too many factors to simply dismiss Evo 7's merely as 'slow'.
Last time I was at the Pod, Barry Sheavills got tyre shake at the 1/8th mile mark in a qualifier, came out of the throttle and crossed the line around the late 6 second mark at well over 200 mph. He described the run as 'slow'.

well he launched ok, thrashed it and got cr@p times all day.
So dunno, sounded nice and launched very nice, but as you can see by the terminal its pretty slow. Must have been standard.
Funny how a mate in a standard 4x4 saff got 13.7 at 105 and its 9 years old.
Are they really worth the money

Cem, I am sorely dissapointed in you. I can't believe you would sink to such a level as to suggest that your car is merely better than mine.
I would never do that , especially not to you.
May I just remind you of some things.
1. Shins face at the appropriate point of the conversation.
2. "Its not as fast as the subaru".
3. Tongue is firmly in cheek.
4. you blow goats (I have proof).
6. where's five?
5. there it is.

Dingy was the car run-in ie, 8000 miles plus, was he /she just sh*t/careful at driving, were they taking it to red-line.
You said he was doing crap times all-day if so then he/she was not riding the clutch as it would have been towed away!
Adam you should go back to sleep and dream about un-even manifolds
or sonic blue wall-paper cause the 7 is quicker than the P1 in a straight line and MUCH quicker around corners!!!!
Regards

Until you know you will never know, but when you know you will know.

Agree with Dingy, if it wasnt up to the job then why did the owner take it down the strip?
even my MY00 did quicker times than that!! first ever run, 2 up, full boot and nearly a full tank i did 14.32 and i bogged the turbo down, didnt have the wheels pointing in the right direction but as they say, it could be a bad one or they were running it on ul and not sul!!

ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Ever see that film where they put all the racing cars in the ring and ram each other until they break down? Last one still driving is the winner!
THATS WHAT WE ALL SHOULD DO and end all this poo once and for all.
Blowdog, you`d definitely win in your tank
