The car goes through a bet test first, (basic emision test) with default settings. If your car fails this, it then has to be tested under the opropriate settings for the car. If the cats still fitted it should pass the bet test no problems.

It depends on the date of registration / first use. Before 01 08 95 then itll be tested as a non-cat car; ie CO2 under 3.5%. If its a later car then it needs to be under 0.3%.

The figures are in my first post; and the information is taken from a flow chart in the MOT Inspection Manual (July 1998). If the exact model isnt listed (which it cant be where your car is registered simply as 'Impreza'); the allowable CO emmissions depend on the vehicles date of first use. Simply, before 010895 and it needs to be < 3.5% (this is a 'non-cat test') and after after it needs to be <0.3%.

For an imported vehicle, the declared date of first use is relevant; not the date of registration in the UK. Cars (first used on or after 010895) for which you cant find an exact listing still have to have CO emmissions of less that 0.3%.
