get a z4, its what is supposed to be in your car and is considered the best jap ecu for british fuel.

The reason that you are seeing 'overboost' is that the map sensor 'tops out' at 17.2psig and you are currently boosting to 1.2bar(17.4psig) - The Zero sports ECU is likely to have an additional chip fitted with a JDM performance chip which will have fuel/Ignition/boost maps to suit running on 100RON fuel so running on UK fuel without additives is likely to cause detonation.
The best ECU's to run (plug & play) are the Z4 & Z5 which have maps very similar to the PPP map so are safe on optimax & Tesco SUL (99RON).
The reason the ECU is only allowing 0.5bar once it has seen 1.2bar is that it has seen overboost thus defaulted to the limp home mode

Cheers

how are you sure there is no det? Have you listened with det cans or a via a knocklink? Not all det is audible to the naked ear.

If you look under the passenger footwell carpet - remove the metal plate you will find the ECU - On the cover of the ECU there will be a code which will disinguish what type it is

Totally agree with dj219957 - The JDM 'chips' invariably run very agressive ignition maps as they are designed to run with higher octane fuel. When running our inferior fuel detonation is likely and as mentioned above if you haven't listened to the engine with DET ' CANS or have a KL fitted how can you be sure as it is not always audible from inside the car?

Cheers
