all i can do is describe what happens to my car. if i am going along at say 40 to 50 in 5th gear sometimes 4th as i accelerate the boost rises then dies down and wont go above 0.5 was told this was overboost causing the car to shut down

The reason that you are seeing 'overboost' is that the map sensor 'tops out' at 17.2psig and you are currently boosting to 1.2bar(17.4psig) - The Zero sports ECU is likely to have an additional chip fitted with a JDM performance chip which will have fuel/Ignition/boost maps to suit running on 100RON fuel so running on UK fuel without additives is likely to cause detonation.
The best ECU's to run (plug & play) are the Z4 & Z5 which have maps very similar to the PPP map so are safe on optimax & Tesco SUL (99RON).
The reason the ECU is only allowing 0.5bar once it has seen 1.2bar is that it has seen overboost thus defaulted to the limp home mode
Cheers
