My tale of scooby woe
Today should have been a great day in my life. My car went to Scoobyclinic yesterday for a TD05 fitting and a re-map 
.
However......I got the call I didn't want to hear
.
I bought the turbo off eBay a couple of months ago and all seemed well.
The turbo has been fitted yesterday and the car put on the rollers for the remap today.
But despite the best efforts of the lads at the clinic, no boost was to be seen anywhere, not a fart
After a chat with the fellas, I'm having a new turbo from Scoobyclinic and the remap is to be done tomorrow
.
My lowly eBay blower has left me £300 out of pocket and the process has cost me a few ££££'s more than expected. We live and learn I suppose, but this will be the last thing for more than a tenner that i'll get off there
.
Anyone got any advice with regards to approaching the seller for a refund?, although I know my chances are slim.
I'd also like to thank the lads at the clinic for their advice and fitting me in to their busy schedule, typical of their excellent reputation .
Role on Saturday when I collect the car.....oh yeah, and the 24th when I get paid.

How long ago exactly was it you bought it ? If it was 2 or 3 months ago then you'll have little chance of getting a refund - as far as the seller is concerned you could have fitted it the day it arrived and knackered it yourself in the meantime.
Was it bought from a private seller or from a business one as this will make a difference ? Has the seller got any feedback suggesting they sell faulty goods ? - it could be they had no idea it didnt work and geuninely sold it beleiving that it did.
No harm in sending a friendly ( non ranting and no swearing or threatening to turn up on his doorstep with the boys ) email and telling him about it - if he is a genuine seller then he may work something out with you.

TBH mate, i don't think he knew the turbo was knackered. From his profile, it appears he's from some kind of breakers yard and his feedback was excellent, as was the service he gave.
I think the turbo has been removed from the donor car and sold on and obviously it's not possible to tell if the unit is faulty without testing it.
I kept his emails in case there were any problems, so i'll contact him and see where that goes.

ask the seller politely 1st.
then if no joy and you paid via paypal put in a complaint. if scoobyclinic will write a letter confirming the cnackerd turbo you will get a refund from paypal .
i know as this hapend to me before

I wouldn't buy things for the car off eBay - I know some people get good deals but seems way to risky. If the price seems to good to be true it probably is.

Ive used turbo technics many years ago on a garrett t2, cost just over £100 for a recon with warranty, send yours to them and a few days later a turbo returns looking as good as new.
Also, it could just be the wastegate that is faulty

If you paid through a credit card, which most people do on paypal, you can put a chargeback request through on your credit card. They will recall the money from paypal (which paypal have to oblige with, like it or not) and then reimburse you with the money.
Paypal will then go the the seller and either take the equivelant amount off his paypal account if he has enough in it, or just issue him with a chargeback request, put his account in negative balance and suspend him using paypal until he pays it off.
I know all the above to be true as some conning little git bought a mobile phone off me the other year, i sent it, didnt hear anything, then 3 months later paypal asked me for 230 squid back. I tried to contact the buyer through email and everything, but he ignored me. pay pal had already given him his money back on his credit cards say so, without even coming to me first. NICE!
I know this sounds like a harsh approach, but it will get you your money back. make sure you paid for it within the last 90 days tho.

I've emailed the seller this morning so i'll give him a few days to respond and see what he says.
It's been 60 days since I bought it so far, so a bit of time left yet.

I've received a reply from the seller, basically, not playing ball.
Reply was;
"As far as i was aware the turbo was working fine when it was removed from a vehicle prior to it's sale on ebay.
I am a private seller and unfortunately am unable to offer any warranty on the unit, as it is a second hand item and not reconditioned or rebuilt before sale.
I am unable to give you a refund, as you made the purchase from me two months ago.
Sorry i can't be of any more help."

I've seen it aswell. The serial number on the turbo in the picture isn't the same as what's on mine. That's what makes me think that this guy works in some kind of breakers yard and gets his hands on quite a few parts.
