is it genuine?
#1 i bought my car a couple of month ago, its supposed to be an sti,but since then ive noticed a few things that have made me wonder wether its an sti or just a wrx.So ive bin on a site that shows how to work out exactly which model you have ,the code number on the vehicle id plate is gc8c48d which on the site says it is a wrx.The log book just says impreza wrx,the seats are wrx.But car as the logo saying tuned by sti,and it has sti clocks,badges and i bought it thinking it was an sti.is there any other way i can find out. greatful for any help. thanks.

What year is the car?

There should be plenty of ways of telling altho from the info you have given (i.e. engine code) it sounds like a WRX, the easiest things to change are the badges etc.

Things like the intercooler, turbo, exhaust, 5 or 6 spd gearbox (new-age) would all distinguish it...

If you give the year etc i'm sure someone will come along with some decent little checks to clarify....

my mate bought it off ebay around 4 or 5 month ago the guy he got it off said it was an sti,and i bought off my mate a couple off month ago.

 

just bin and took pics just got to put the on pc then iwill post them.

Errrm, i'd say the pics are a complete waste of time. If the plate says GC8C48D then its a 4 door WRX. Not matter if the inlet manifold is red, or it has STi stickers on it etc. They are easy to transfer, getting the plate off is harder to achive.

It's a WRX.

just bin out in my m8s 1998 sti and it dont seem any different can any one tell me the difference between a 1995 wrx and a sti engine.such as different turbos etc...

 

MY95 Sti and WRx will have the same turbo (TD05)... your mates MY98 will have a VF series. The TD05 is of similar size if not slightly bigger. The only way to tell if you ahve an sti engine is to take it apart really to see teh firged pistons.

It's a WRX tho... i guarantee!

i was lookin to take my wrx sti(wish it was)to around 350 bhp can i do that without serious engine mods,f so can anyone give me a list of what to start with first.ive aleady got apex air filter,dumpvalve,3" ss sports cat exhaust system but lookin for a full decat system,and a fuel control unit.

 

buy a scooby thats already got 350 bhp?

let someone els do the spending.

 

You'll need a different ecu, apexi would be best, bigger injectors - 440cc's, maybe 550cc's, upgraded intercooler - front mount or STI8, maybe uprated fuel pump aswell.
Should run 330-340 with that, may need a bigger turbo for 350bhp.

Then you can start worring about your gearbox and clutch!!!

 

Oh, maybe headers aswell

If it was an STI would it not show it on the I/C I think its just a wrx mate... but its a damn good looking one

Having seen the pics... 100% sure it's a WRX, not an STi. Personally i'd find the guy who sold it as an Sti and string him up by the bollox until he refunds some cash.

The car I have at the moment is EXACTLY like yours and when I bought it the dealer was telling me it was an STi (it had STi stickers all over it). I checked the VIN code with my print-out I took with me just in case and indeed it was GC8C48D - a WRX.
