Question Why wont the manual adjustment on my head lights work?

Hi all.

I have a 97 uk turbo with the manual head light adjuster next to the hand brake. The problem is that when you turn the switch you can here some sort of motor moving but neither of the head lights move up or down now. Just the other week i got my cousin to adjust them at the garage with the proper reflector equipment and he turned them both down to the proper level but had a bit of a job doing it as it seemed both adjuster screws on the head lights were reluctant to adjust. I have been back to the garage for him to have another look to see if he over tightened them etc etc and this would cause them not to work, but he can not adjust them what so ever now. He did tell me to maybe take out the head light and take the adjuster out of it to see if it could be fixed as he said the adjuter turns but has no resistance. Has this happened to anyone else out there??

many thanks

Roy

P.s. hope this makes some sort of sense.

If the actual beam adjusting screws are tight the motor probably cannot turn them so it just slips round on the plastic. Could be worth spraying the threads on the adjusters with WD40 or equivalent. working on a HGV hade similar problem ie could not set headlights correctly. Ended up with new headlights as we could not get the adjusters on their own. Just be VVVVVVVVVV carful when trying to turn the adjusters as you could easily mess up the screw heads. Wish they put hex heads on that you can use a socket on would be much better.

The beam adjusting screws are slack and turn easy but have no resistance at all on both sides, I was thinking maybe a nut had fell out from the bottom of the adjusting screws or something along them lines so it can not be adjusted anymore?

Anymore suggestions??

All the ones I have seen the thread is in the plastic. As you say they are slack it sounds like the threads have stripped. Can't think of an easy repair maybe a trip to the scrappies and get some of another vehicle.
