Are these really needed or are they just for show, I know that on old cars Samco hoses are needed as the pipes are usually old a brittle and can be split.
Would I need these on my 2004 WRX to get the most out of the mods I already have fitted or would the standard hoses be up for the job, If they did need replacing which ones would need to be strengthened, I already have the intercooler to the throttle body and the turbo to the intercooler(standard STi one).

The turbo inlet hose - whilst being a pig to fit - also makes a significant difference, allowing the turbo to get inlet air easier. Imroves spool up by about 100rpm in particular.
