Default Power increase

Hi all,

Having doen lots of searching and reading i think i have worked out the easiest way to improve the power and driveability of my Bugeye., with a WR SPort BB fitted.

1. De cat centre (i want to leave resonator in as kids and neighbours may not like it otherwise!!) seen a 2nd hand one for £75 is this good?
2. Green cotton filter
3. Walbro fuel pump
4. Ecutek3 remap at Andy F

Car is due a service very soon so i will do the filter and de cat.

Is there any advantage to fitting the fuel pump now as i probably wont get the map done for a few months?

Cash reserves being constantly depleted by twin girls!

Cheers in advance

Hiya,

1) Ok for one with a resonator in I guess, probably could get one cheaper, though. To give you an idea, a non-resonated H&S center section was going for £70 at a recent Group buy.

2) Good choice

3) Sensible

4) Another good choice.

If you really want the best gains, you should fit a Decat/sports cat DP, as this is where the biggest restriction in the exhaust is- this lowers the point at which the turbo spools up by as much as 700rpm, gives significantly better low end response and frees up the top end too. Scoobyworld do the excellent Ninja hi Flow DP for £299 I have one on my classic; great bit of kit.

You needn't fit the fuel pump now. It's a good precaution when you're getting a remap though. I think your next biggest restriction with the Bugeye will be the injectors (IIRC they were 380cc) as opposed to 440 on the classics and blobeyes. The TD04 also starts to run out of puff at 280bhp.

All the best,

NS04

Cheers for that. Just looking to get an increase similar to PPP option so hopefully get 250/260 bhp with the mods mentioned. may stretch to decat DP in the future

yeah the decat downpipe is a better choice for removal than the centre one. It will release more power and change the exhaust note slightly. (shouldnt be unobtrusive though)
Everything else though is okay. The fuel pump can be fitted just before the remap but personally If you have it in advance then I would fit it just so that the rest of the fuel system//regulator get used to it. (ie uprated flow etc)
This isnt a neccesity though (I only fitted mine the night before it was mapped)

Correct me if im wrong but i just changed the centre pipe on my newage and is it not just a silencer on here and not a cat???? Cat on down pipe, cat on up pipe but i was sure the centre pipe was just a silencer. I may very well be mistaken though.

Newage exhaust consists of...

Backbox
Centre silencer
Centre pipe with CAT
Downpipe with CAT
Up-pipe with CAT

5 sections in all.

I've just de-cat'd my centre, fitted a Ninja (resd) centre and an STi panel filter. Torque is much better at 5K revs in 2nd and 3rd. Noise is much much better

Going by scooby world diagram there are only 4 sections. Downpipe / cat pipe / centre section / backbox. The centre section only incorporates a silencer and not a cat. Thats why you can buy resonated ones and non resonated ones. Or am i totally confused??

Sgscooby - the uppipe is BEFORE the turbo so not really a part of what you would call the exhaust.

I have contacted a few suppliers about price for the centre cat only and they are all telling me that it comes as one piece ie: resonator and de cat section. Older models had 2 piece set up.

If this is so what is the guy selling a centre de cat for newage selling? he has confirmed it is the section between the downpipe and the silencer/resonator.

If i was to put the de cat DP in can i still leave the remap for a while? have heard about boosting issues if you just change it and leave the map.

Confused I am!

I have an MY04 Wagon. As standard it has...

a Backbox
a Centre section with silencer
a Centre section with CAT
a Downpipe with CAT
and an Up-pipe with CAT

I class the Up-pipe as part of the system, but some may not.

Pictures.

Here you can see the Ninja centre section, the De-CAT centre section (with heat shield on) and the bottom of the Downpipe...

Here you can the Backbox and Ninja Centre section...

Hope that helps?

J.

Wvoce

I managed to get a brand new one from a PPP kit for £70.50... but I was very very lucky to find it.

2nd hand I'd be offering between 50 and 70 new English pounds.

Talking YOU MUST !

Hi there

If you're spending all that money you MUST change the up-pipe

It will significantly improve pick up, lower boost threshold, and crisp up the throttle a little.

Its as important as the down pipe.

Whatever you do - dont do one and leave the up-pipe strangulation in !

It will all be worth it mate.
