Default uneven boost

Hi all
I've just started running a '95 WRX import.
The only mods are a K+N induction kit and a part de-cat with an HKS stainless exhaust.
It's just been serviced and it's had new NGK plugs, leads, Valvoline 15-50 oil, filter and 2 new coil packs where needed.
Now it's not spooling up till at least around 4000 rpm and hitting the limiter at about 6500. Also it gives slightly uneven boost (like a very slight judder) mainly in 3rd gear but sometimes in the others.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? A mate reckons the ECU has different boost curves programmed for each gear and that it could have screwed itself up and be causing the problem. If so how much for a replacement and would an STi ECU be compatible and offer any advantages?

Cheers

I guess your using shell optimax ???? ive been told this fuel is good enough for the z4 ecu which your car will be running and the map is very close to the uk spec or prodrives ????.....nowt wrong with taking her to the rolling road experts to freshen her up. Also the turbo on it will spool up later, i have th 95 spec import and it spools up late.....great power when it comes on though

In answer to the questions.

No it's not been mapped for UK fuel, but a reset performed on the ECU (battery off for an hour) was I'm told suficient to cure that.
Yes it's always been run on Optimax since I got it in January.
Maybe a remap might be in order here ... what do you think?

Should spool up a lot earlier than that. My old MY95 WRX was spooling happily from 2500rpm onwards - but that was fully decatted.

Without changing the downpipe, it should spool up at 3000rpm ish.

Are you using octane booster with the optimax? You should be, or risk a blown engine.

It could well be the boost solenoid - it hasn't been overfilled with oil has it?

To be honest it could be 101 things, could even be the other (not-new) coil packs giving up.
