Tony; are you sure about that? You see, the exact date of manufacture can not be established, certainly not by a clerk in your local VRO. I have a couple of cars that have both been landed for several months, but i can assure you that they will be registed using the dates of first registration on the certificate of de-reg and its translation.
Btw; 1996 registered STI Type-Rs were available although they were not common. The few that came available (mostly in 2004 due to Sha'ken) were snapped up at a premium for the predictable reasons.

Most of those R's would have been manufactured in 96 anyway, and didnt they all go in the first month of sale?

Im talking about used vehicles (I know next to nothing about unregistered imports)..... They can be guesstimated from a number of indicators, but a used vehicle will always be registered in accordance with the date of registration on the de-reg.

Just to help you, theres a P reg STI Type R for sale where live. It has the old style dash but is a type R - red manifold and diff control etc. It has a 22b rear spoiler and 22b front bumper - miles on about 60K ish and lovely condition.
He wants £7999 IIRC.
