Default Myth or truth!!

Will I need to disconnect my battery for 12hrs to reset my ecu, as I put a tank of normal unleaded in.

Have I lost performance, is it worth doing????

The ecu will learn fairly quickly by itself, a reset would speed up that process, and yes you might have lost a few bhp, i wouldnt bother to reset the ecu for one tank full

I thought the ecu worked on an average system. Therefore one tank will probably make very little difference overall.

Depends on what year/model. ECUs on scoobs have changed vastly over the past 14 years

But generally, it works on an average over time.

Depending on what Impreza you have, there is a procedure which will allow you to reset the ECU in about a minute.

ECU Reset

On early MYs (especially pre MY97) the ECU retards the ignition when knock is detected, however, it is very slow to advance the timing again. An ECU reset will restore the car to factory default settings. This will remove any stored fault codes and restore ignition advance. It is possible to reset the ECU by following these steps:

* Turn ignition OFF

* Connect Read Memory Connectors & Test Mode Connectors
(jumper 5) [black connectors] – (jumper 6) [green connectors]

* Turn ignition ON (engine off)

* Engine Check lamp turns on

* Depress accelerator pedal completely

* Then return it to the half-throttle position and hold it there for two seconds

* Release pedal completely

* Start engine

* Code is indicated by Pulsing lamp

* If a fault is detected - Check ECU Code

* If no fault is detected - drive the car sensible for a couple of minutes
i.e. until warm (do not run tall & do not thrash it!)

* When the ECU has been reset the Check Engine Light will flash

* Code is indicated by Pulsing lamp

* If a fault is detected Check ECU Code

* Turn ignition OFF & Disconnect Connectors

* If there is a fault Check Appropriate Sensor

Unless it detects knock with the 95, then it reacts quickly to protect the engine. I think it then takes quite a while to advance it again and takes longer the more you run on 95.

Then don't worry, it runs realtime to whatever fuel is in there, no averaging etc.

Well, personally, I would get a £500 Re-Map done .... then another when you put your first choice petrol in.

Buy a CockLink and ensure that you have a GEEK with a LapTop and some Spastic Det.Cans.

Your pistons will melt if you don't!!
