Help a dipstick
#3
Your having a laugh?
If not, as with any car, make sure the oil has had a chance to settle.
Remove the stick, swiftly.. clean it off, then put it back in, remove the stick again swiftly and observe the level of the oil..
Not exactly rocket science?

Some people suggest taking out dipstick, wiping it and leave it out for half-hour during which time the oil will drain down tube, so when you put dipstick back in, you can take a 'cleaner reading'.

Can't say I've got a problem either; car left on a flat surface over night. Open bonnet. Remove dipstick. Wipe clean. Replace. Remove. Read. Nod knowingly at the sight of a perfect oil level. Replace. Stare at engine. Visually check other fluid levels. Close bonnet. Wipe hands. Get in car. Start engine. First gear. Seatbelt on. Ciggy in gob. Drive off.

As the stick bends round when put in it seems to either pick up or rub off oil as it is pulled out, leading to frequently random readings. I've got the mutant 2005 Saabaru Aero, so maybe it is not a problem with regular WRXs.

By the nature of oil it will "adhere" to the metalic dip stick so it doesnt matter if the bulk of the oil is brushed off by the tube. aslong as you have wiped down the dip stick with a clean cloth you will be able to see the level.

Ignore the mick-taking...I know exactly what you mean about the erroneous readings.
The oil appears to "wick" along the sides of the stick. Often one side of the dipstick reads higher than the other side.
Wouldn't let it bother you though a few mm over or under won't do any harm

I think you should rephrase that, there is a common missunderstanding on this site that Subaru's are some how "special" and need to be treated differently to other cars.. I am merely stating what is true on all cars.. Thanks for the kind words though
