Headlights on during the day ... discuss
Not that I believe that I am in any way shape or form some form of college lecturer but I noticed in the paper the other day that the Euro people want everyone to drive with the headlights on at all times, personally I sometimes find that when the big Volvo owner is in view the glare from the headlights during the day is a little distracting, but whats the general consensus????????

I cant see any disadvantages in it myself. Half the f'wits driving these days need every hint possible to let them know others are on the road, especially at junctions.
Being an ex biker i always had my headlight on warning others as i approached junctions.

Thats why Volvos have them on constantly, it was proved that the country that builds them had a trial, with headlights on in the day.
Accidents where dramatically reduced, therefore it became law.
I tend to drive with them on in the day lots anyway, just simply because i forget to turn them off

My company car is a Citroen C5 Estate but has automatic headlights which operate from a senser. Think this might be a good idea for all cars, headlights on all the time wouldn't be needed then.

I have the little switch on the WRX set to "lights off with ignition" and more often than not I have the lights on as a result, even during the day. Just means the bulbs will wear out faster.

This time of the year I drive with atleast my side lights on at all times, but making a law to enforce this is just stupid, its common sense that you need lights on most of the time during the winter months, I wish this world would start encouraging education over enforcement, we're not all ****ing morons.

When raining or in poor visibility I have the lights on. Also on a fast road such as through Glencoe so that the nutters overtaking can see you coming.

As a owner of a Silver/grey car, that easily blends into the grey and gloomy UK horizon....
I belive headlights on when "making progress" makes the difference between being seen and being cut up by Mrs Moggins in her Dawoo Matiz who pulled out infront of me because she "didn't see me"
Silver cars are like bikes. People just don't seem to see them

Come on, must be some more people with perfectly reasoned, eloquently worded arguements like Davey here.

I hate it when i see people with lights on during a clear visable day as it distracts your eyes. I also hate with a passion people who drive with fog lights on when its not foggy

What gets my back up is when people drive with side lights on and fog's in total darkness, how cool is that supposed to be ????
What gets my back up that little bit extra is people that drive with fogs on a rainy night so the glare off the 20bhp+ lights bounces straight off the road surface right into my eyes! Great!
3 points for driving with fogs on in perfect driving conditions

Oooh, three and four (maybe even five) in quick succession.
May I suggest that you concentrate harder on the road so you don't get distracted by the little lights?
As for 'hating' - isn't that a bit irrational or extreme if you think about it?
Keep 'em coming, it makes me laugh.

My son was hit head-on in his STi by an old lady in a Metro who pulled out and overtook a car that was stopped in the road waiting to turn right! It was a bright, sunny day, but even so, if he had been driving with at least sidelights on, she might just have seen him? Although she was totally to blame and was prosecuted, it taught him a lesson in always driving with the sidelights on. Because of that, I tend to do the same now.

On dull days yes definately at least sidelights.
Regarding the legislation - no thanks because it gives old bill another excuse to pull us when we havent got them on and if everybody does it then you wont stand out either when you have the prescence of mind to pop them on due to dull conditions.
Anyway you have to have your lights on to kick in the alternator charging the battery.
