Default New MY06 Sti - pre purchase advice please.

I'm about to sign up for a new EU MY06 Sti from Alliance Car Imports, can anyone advise on the following:

Are Alliance OK?

In the past I had a EU import MY02 WRX, at the time you could order UK supplied cars with either bucket seats (no airbags) or normal seats (with side airbags). Is it still possible to get UK cars with a choice?

Tyres – on the new Sti you seem to get tyres that a superb in the dry but not so good in heavy rain, I would prefer to loose some ultimate performance in the dry and have better performance in heavy rain. I’m thinking of getting some F1’s fitted – does this seem a logical idea and how much would the standard tyres be worth second hand (delivery mileage)?

Are the Xenon lights on both dip and main or just dip, and are the lights any good?

Thanks for any advice.

I've got a UK MY06 STI bought from a main dealer at not much more than you would pay from Alliance once you add all the extras on like tracker and also the srvicing cost, if the car has been imported from say Malta you would need to stick to 7.5K servicing intervals not 10k as the UK STI. So check the final costs before signing up
As regards the seats there is no option on the uk one you just get STI seats with side airbags.
I fitted Prodrive Pff7's on mine as I do not like gold alloys or the road noise that goes with the Bridgstones. You should get around £400 if not more on ebay for the wheels and tyres. I always use Toyo's T1-R's on mine and find them to be an excellent all round tyre with superb wet grip and get around 20k miles to a set (on my previous WRX PPP)

Xenon lights are just on dipped not main beam btw.

Kevin, thanks for your info.

I've found a demo UK car that works out same price as the import (taking the alarm, tracker etc. into account) - plan to order it this afternoon.

I kept my previous WRX EU spec for three years and had no problem selling it for the same value as a UK car, the savings on the WRX make it well worth buying a EU car but if you get a really keen deal the Sti savings aren't that significant.

Cheers

Edward.

Would not buy a demo impreza as I doubt it had a sympathetic first 1000 miles.

Inclined to agree. I've heard too many stories about people being allowed to thrash them from cold etc...one does wonder if they've been run in properly at all!

Is this a definite that the service intervals are different between uk an eu? Not heard of it and am myself buying an eu wrx shortly.

Subaru Malta say UK intervals are OK. Maltese intervals are shorter because all car use is for short trips as the island is so small. The post below is Subaru Malta's position regarding a non STI WRX.

Edward - why not email Subaru Malta regarding STI and see what they say ?

Alliance were ok for my WRX

The service intervals will be slightly different for EU but you will need to check service booklet as I believe different EU countries may vary too. Mine came from cyprus not Malta it has a better warranty than UK one too as it covers transmission for 5 years.

I've just got back from the dealer - the car is mint and costing slightly less than a new import.

I'm not concerned that's it been a demo, my other 2 Impreza turbo's have been driven fairly hard from new without any problems and I don't expect to have the car when it's out of warranty.

Does anyone know which bulbs are fitted in the main beam? I want to get some +50 bulbs and fit them on Wednesday when I pick the car.
