Default Panel filter, worth buying?

Hey all,

My cars gonna be remaped soon (ECUTEK), its an 02 UK STI Prodrive, it will have Full H&S decat system, 255 fuel pump and possibly a panel filter.

It it really gonna make any difference to the performance or is it £40 better spent elsewhere?

Cheers?

I have recently bought one, it made a hell of a difference. mine is ITG but you have to be carefull which you go for because some mafs dont like specific ones

worth every penny I spent

I fitted a green filter to mine recently, it gave the air intake a more pronounced sook, so to speak. So I take it the throttle response is better getting more air in than standard. I have no way of checking without monitoring.

As regards anything else like MPG or anything never noticed anything to talk about.

So IMHO a cheap mod that gives more air in, which must be good for £35 and no remap required.

I've seen figures quoted on here of gains upto 15bhp with a better panel filter than the standard non-STI ones.

However, if yours is the STI filter, which I assume it is, it's as good as aftermarket ones anyway, so probably not worth doing for you.

Shaggy the ITG IS the oily one.
Frayz, you wouldln't gain any power over your standard STI filter, the only thing is something like the Green Cotton have a longer life span (the sti is throw away at service). So from a cost point of view it maybe worth doing.

I done mine as part of a service, the one in my STi was not a rewashable type I have seen on some, it was a bog standard filter, the Green was a cheap buy and did the job and is serviceable

As for 15 brake, a dont think so. It is purely a filter to stop crap getting in yer engine. Mine gave a pronounced sook on throttle so was letting more air in and so I take it more response. But 15 brake, a seen lots over the years spending more than £35 a lot more and not getting anywhere near 15 brake.

To put it in persective, a group of us tried to do up a 1.6i, we ended up spending nearly £400 all in for a new carbon ram air induction/new filter etc and we were lucky to see 20 brake improvement.

UK STi's don't come with a STi panel filter as standard. Not sure about imports.

Never mind, my 05 has one now, and she's very happy

There you go cant argue with monitoring, new it was an improvement on response.

I did read a reply here about keeping standard with just a new filter up to 400 brake, after that new induction cones was way to go as the dragging in hot air from engine was not an issue.

As my tamperings never got above 200 brake in a 1.6i I stayed with cold and rammed through carbon and green filters I must defer to the blokes response above.

What you hoping to obtain from your remap? Have any figure in mind, have you had your style rolling road prior to this.

Is it the car thats went slow, cause of problems or you got used to the speed.

I have always found the driver gets used to the speed and feels he is slower.

Your target seems reasonable by the way, good luck.

Having looked at your style I notice that you have black grills, mine has alloy Prodrive mesh ones, I take it from this that these were not part of the style package must have been a mod.
