Would This Make You Slow Down??

Yes, cardboard cut-out, but - to be honest - if you drive with your eyes open it should make to check your speed?

i would be tempted to hit the ****** if i knew it was fake
the *******s have won anyway, i check my speed every time i see a white van parked by the side of the road, and still hit the brakes even if i am not speeding

There's one of these outside of a house in my area (made by a local resident)
All it has managed to accomplish so far, is several (unprovenly-related) crashes, where drivers have lurched onto the brakes and skidded in panic.
Granted the one in this picture is cosha, but the one by us is totally illegal.
Will cause more accidents than prevent them IMHO.

Only any need to hit the brakes if you are speeding
It actual fact, by the time you see the speed detector, it's far too late - your speed has been logged!!

Not that iv done anything wrong but when ppl are out to catch u for sumthing u never know what u mite have done by mistake.
Just as it has been proved with speed cameras they will not reduce acidents just increace them.

The psychological aspects of seeing one of our "boys in blue" stood to the side in a high-visibitly coat, pointing something at you, results in you slowing/changing your immediate behaviour. I don't care who you are.
Whether you're speeding or not - it will have an effect on you.

Have seen these in Thailand and Japan where they are very popular in some areas.
They make you slow down the first time you see them, but after that its just a laugh.

There are a few local forces that give speed guns and hi-vis jackets to local residents, they log the cars that are speeding and the police send them a letter..

IMO, and obviously you will have your own opinion (which normally differs from the majority!) the use of camera's and white vans increases the accident rate, due to drivers spending most of their time looking for speed traps, rather than concentrating on potentially dangerous situations.
I drive 30K miles a year and it would help if I was allowed to get on with driving, rather than trying to spot some sneaky copper/camera trying to tax me £60..........

Would I slow down? Probably not.
If it was in a sensible location where you shouldn't be speeding anyway (30mph or other built-up area) I'd be generally close enough to the speed limit to not worry about getting caught. However, I would, as an instinctive reaction, look down at my speed momentarily.....just to make sure.
If I saw one of these on an open NSL section of road, I might react differently.
I'm not sure how the police can win on this one....people are forever moaning about too many police catching people speeding, so they put up what is effectively a warning sign......and everyone moans about it!

*Please note, whilst I'm suggesting that on this one point PSLewis might be a touch brighter than a lot of people, I'm not advocating that as a general principle or in any way suggesting "if only more people were like PSL"!
