Exclamation ! is this the wrong centre section?

Hi all,

Just received my order from Hayward and Scott, however I'm concerned the straight through centre that I have ordered is wrong. I was under the impression there would be no bulges on it whatsoever (i.e. no resonator / flexi sections).

However mine has a mesh/gaused flexi section near the downpipe flange.

I don't think it's a resonator, so what's going on -- or am I talking bo!!ocks?

BTW this is to fit a classic (P1).

Help!

Stu

Thats purley a flexi joint to allow some movement in the exhaust,Athough I've never seen one on an impreza in the centre pipe like that.Shouldnt cause any problems providing it fits ok.

What downpipe do you have on your car...??? it#s got a flange for a gasket, not the doughnut type seal thats on the standard system.....

if you look at the position of the mounting bracket,id say the flexi is at the back box joint and not the downpipe end

Mmm, i don't think so, the 'hookey' bit should be pointing downwards if that were the case.....

it's definately the down pipe end, 100% certain.

The only thing worth mentioning is the centre section tapers down to 2.5" at the back box end to fit a standard back. My logic is maybe the weld seam on the taper would be taking the full force unless the flexi was in there?

I dunno, but it seems strange to me!

I take it your downpipe is a full3 inch right through then aswell......?? if it is, you'll obviously need some sort of gasket between the two..... other than that, the flexi joints are fine..... you could say that they're less likely to leak than the standard way of joining the two....

Yes mate, 3" down pipe -> 3" centre tapered to 2.5" -> 2.5" back box.
There is a 3" gasket between the downpipe and centre.
