Default Key fob re-programming

I got ppp fitted but the dealer forgot to re-programme my spare key to the new ECU. Do I have to take it to the stealer to get this done or can I do it myself. I thought I had read something in the alarm manual about teaching them to the ecu. MY05 WRX by the way.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can do it yourself - if you have a look in the security section the instructions are there

I took mine to the dealer when mine decided to erase the code in the fob.

Done free of charge. Suppose it all depends on the dealer really.

Two types of recoding I think:

1) Alarm recoding - this can be done by yourself.

2) Recoding the key to the cars ECU - this can only be done by a dealer.

Cheers

Edward.

You use the alarm keypad to tell it that you want to program the keys. The full instructions will be with your alarm manual. You will also need your alarm PIN IIRC. Sorry but I don't keep my manual in my car - If you can't find yours PM me and I'll look it up tonight.

Thanks for all your help. I think you are right Edward, I have tried to do it as per the alarm instructions but with no success. I think this has to be done by the dealer when its a new ecu. Anyone know for defo?

RJL - If you unset your alarm OK but the car won't start with your spare key you'll have to get a dealer to reprogram the new ECU to recognise your spare key. This is only a couple of minutes job - the dealer shouldn't charge you.

Craig, the keypad for the alarm has nothing to do with the cars ECU, the only way to pair the key with the cars ECU is with a select monitor.

When I bought my 05 STi PPP I only got 1 key, several weeks later I received a brand new key through the post, do I just need programme the key for the alarm or does it need to be keyed to the ECU by the dealer?? Was going to get the dealer to do it at the next service but if it just need coding to the alarm I'll do it myself.

Cheers

Dave, try unlocking your car with your original key - then try starting it with your new key (keep your original key away from the car).

If it starts all you will have to do is set up the alarm (instructions in the alarm manual).

If the car won't start or starts then cuts out you will need to visit your dealer.
