Angry help - awfull smell coming from heater

just recently an awfull smoky smell has started coming from the heater vents -which has got really bad - the smell is similar to a clutch burning or new brakes burning - it is also fogging up the windows and wont clear - when i wipe them its slightly greasy and not condensation - can anyone help please

Dont know if your car has got air-con mate but when you mention the greasy residue,i know there is an oil like lubricant put in with the gas when they are charged. Don't know however if this can come up through the heater?

Also double check its not coming from the engine bay as a drip of oil or fluid onto a hot manifold could have the same effect!

Sounds like you have a leaky heater matrix and a bugger of a job to replace

Is it sickly sweet?

Check your coolant levels, as Dualtech says it sound like your heater matrix has holed and is dumping coolant inside the car...been through this myself and it's a complete barsteward to fix...complete dash out job

Mine was caused by a poor earth under the dash (stereo most likely) and electrolitic corrosion of the heater matrix core where it was trying to earth itself, eventually leading to a small hole forming

that is ur heater matrix same thing happened to me. Dont drive it till u fix it as it can blow ur head gasket. The dash has to come out to replace it, but u can pick up a new matrix for about £40. Check ur radiator for a leak something must have caused it to brake,
i had a leak in my radiator which caused it to brake
Thats what it is, just be careful as ur head gasket can go
