Some advice please, thinking of buying a subaru impreza sport (non turbo)
Hi all,
Im thinking of buying a subaru impreza sport. 99 model, v reg with 47k on the clock and full subaru service history.
The car is mint, i know the owner has looked after it well and hes the 2nd owner on it. Its basicly as it was when it came out of the factory, no upgrades or anything added to it(nice and plain how i like it) aside from a new cd player and a sunroof that was fitted by subaru.
Should i go for it? Price will be around 3700 , but my main issue is the running costs , i mean most people assume that a subaru will cost a fortune in repairs and services. Is this tryue?
Anything i should look out for or be aware of that may go wrong or will cost me?
Thanks, all advice welcome

best advice i can give ya is dont buy an NA...save a little bit of money and buy a WRX if funds are tight...4-5k will see a nice WRX in your drive way.
Its japanese so it cant be to bad on reliability...and there so many forums etc im sure you can source parts.
However 3700 for a V plate car with 40? whatever on the clock aint awful....
Granted petrol will sting on a turbo but you get used to it
good luck with the search matey

If you want to talk to a gang of Sport owners first hand try here

Great car I ran 2 of them over a 3 year period before I went Turbo myself.

If you want further advice and info speak to these lads http://www.imprezasport.net/ . The only advice I would give is this. If you buy one, don't spend the next two years trying to turn it into a turbo a) You don't want a sheep in wolf's clothing and b) you'll have spunked all the cash you could have saved up to buy a turbo. All the exhausts and airfilters in the world will not see you reach the power output of a completely standard UK Turbo.
Best of luck

as i said, im happy with it as it is, factory issue.
My main concearns are what could go wrong with it, but i suppose thats a bit of a can of worms situation isnt it? as im assuming anything could go at any time.

http://www.imprezasport.net/ and ask if they have a buyers guide and things to check for it were me though. No harm! It's fair to say that there are plenty of standard, regularly serviced turbo'd Imprezas that never miss a beat.

Less stressed, less likely to have been thrashed (maybe).
I looked for one as a runabout to the STi, but could not find a good one for love nor money (got a GT4 instead )
Funny thing is, before the turbo nutter car era, they would have been seen as performance cars !
