Question £20,000 Which Scooby ???

This is the problem i have , £20,000 to spend on a scooby but which one ? I have been looking at STi Type Uk's Blobeyes and there comming out on top at the mo but i noticed if i can stretch a little more the new STi Type UK 2.5 is comming into play do i want this or the 2.0 ?

I am not bothered at all about the DCCD in later models i have had a UK Spec 5 door turbo 215bhp so i am going to notice a big difference in power but i would like to know should i look for PPP or is there better and cheaper options out there ?

So ,

1, 2.0 or 2.5 ?
2, Other options rahter than PPP ?
3, Black,Blue or Silver LOL ?

Not really wanting to go back to the classic shape of car would rather have a nice low milage car with 300bhp+ maybe lol but i prefer the look and interior of the later models .

At that price I'd be either looking at a new 2.5 Hawkeye STi from an EU importer, or an 05 JDM STi. Obviously the JDM will be awkward warranty-wise, although places like Litchfields still do full 3yrs on their JDM cars. The EU warranty situation was resolved recently IIRC, do a search. If you went UK then an 05 with DCCD-A and nearly all the 3yr warranty remaining should be easily found, or maybe an 04 WR1 if you want a special edition.

There's no disputing the JDM cars are much better, but the new Hawkeye has been given some of the toys (backlit dials/Xenons). I drove the 2.5 one recently and found it a good improvement over the 2.0l. With the 6sp 'box I used to find myself constantly flipping up and down, which was tiresome. The extra torque in the 2.5 makes it easier to hold one gear for longer.

There are better options than PPP out there, as long as you don't mind losing the warranty. The WRC Technologies packages are getting a lot of good revues, and the TSL333 was always respected. Powerstations Milltek and remap deal, along with maybe the T20 (AST/Whiteline) suspension upgrade is worth investigating too.

As for colour, white is looking superb at the mo', and then I'd have to look at black (biatch to keep clean though). Crystal Grey would come 3rd (it would be in 1st if it was darker like the RB5 colour) with WR Blue trailing in 4th. Silver is boring, but safe.

you can get pre registered uk 2005 sti's for 21.5k, some are coming out that have been registered in march this year so you've got full warranty.

might be able to haggle down a little bit more, but you won't get it for much cheaper. this really is a cracking deal.

trying hard to get the money together for one myself before they're all gone. (apparently there's not many left)

Corradoboy not really wanting to go down the JDM line due to them being a lot more to insure is that true ? Would rather stay with the UK models and as for the pre-registered cars is that a blobeye or new shape hoskib ?

Pongo,

Well I just weighed out 21K for an 04 WR1. I was gonna just buy a blob eye STI but then I wanted one with PPP and PFF7 Prodrive wheels which would have bumped the price up so i thought heck why not get one with everything (and more) of what I want so settled on a WR1. I've had Jap sti v2 that was on the rollers at 280bhp/253lb/ft torque which was quick but the '1' makes that seem pedestrian, its the 60-100 acceleration which is phenomenal (sp) !

I'd get a run in non PPP'd 05 STI and spend the change modding it to 380-400 HP and sorting the suspension

I bought an 05 STi PPP in black with PFF7's & driving lights for 18.5k in Nov. 8000 on the clock and 6 months old. Good value I thought & well within budget...

blobeye shape, they're shifting the last of them at discount to clear the decks for the new faced one (the munter) and yes JDM will be a bit more to insure, dependant on age/NCB it may not be a massive difference and may well be worth looking into if that's the only thing putting you off.

tidgy, is sti10 the latest one? guess that must be euro imort for that price if it is. bloody good price even though i fookin' hate the look of it

if i'm right, the warranty issues with EU imports have been cleared up now? if that's the case, that's a super price if you like the looks.

foolishly i'd still go for a 21.5k uk 2005 sti, but hey, i've blown about 30 grand on scoobies now and i'm even thinking of doing another 20 what a coont

Thanks for all the comments guys i knew i would get a lot of good info from you all good and bad lol but keep it comming the more info the better the decision will be .

As for WR1's seen a couple of them in my price ranger what is the major differnce between a WR1 and a STI Type UK other than colour and wheels they look the same and i am guessing there both 265bhp standard ?

nope, WR1 is (apparently) 320 bhp

believe suspension kit and DCCD and other goodies but not too sure.

hasn't got the revised suspension of the 05 onwards sti, but how much difference that makes to the average driver i'm not sure. i started a thread a while ago about the differences between WR1 and 05 sti handling and general concensus is not a lot in the real world

I could be talked into parting with my WR1 for a little more .It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it but i am thinking of spending cash in other areas at the moment .It compares with Supercars of treble the price .Fantastic car to be honest .Had RB5 before it and the extra geegees in the WR1 make a big difference .

You get an uprated ecu and the cars claimed figures are 320bhp and 311lb/ft torque. You also get a sports exhaust, driver centre controlled diff, the seats are trimmed slightly different and lowered uprated (progressive rate) dampers.

O yes and you should get the limited edition tax holder and keyring, all very gay!

I know I keep saying it, but :

WR1 insurance is cheaper than an STI PPP as well. You also won't have to spend hours trying to tell the indian call centre worker what your car is, as it will appear on their system as a standard model.

You could see if Trumble will meet you half way on price

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=501155

Now thats a nice looking motor and in the "best colour" so everyone tells me .

If I were you I would be looking for a hawk eye, lets face it a blobeye is going to get hammered on money wise over the next couple of years, at least the hawk eye will be slightly better, not much but a little.
