Former scooby owners: what do you drive now?
Hi all,
I'm thinking of changing my STI for something a bit less harsh, less noisy and less expensive to run. As some of you may know, I've owned a scooby for the last six years, and I'm just starting to feel that it's not always what I want to find waiting for me in the office car park at the end of a long day.
I know I'm far from being the only person to want to move on from an Impreza, but that doesn't make the decision any easier. I don't want to find myself on the phone to the new owner a few weeks later, begging to buy my scooby back.
So, a couple of questions for all those of you who have owned a scooby and then moved on for some reason:
- what do you drive now,
- how are you getting on with it, and
- given the choice, would you make the switch again?
TIA
Andy.

I think you also need to find out what ex-Scooby owners were driving prior to the change to get a more accurate find -
My last car was an MY99 UK Turbo (saloon) with full Scoobysport exhaust.

So, a couple of questions for all those of you who have owned a scooby and then moved on for some reason:
Audi S4 Avant (V6 2.7 bi-turbo) with full leather interior, Bose sound system and "new car" magic tree
Had it now about a month. To sum up - tremendous Loads of torque, space, comfort, a bulid quality that Subaru can only dream of (sorry guys) and a big boot for the dogs Uber Q-car. Lots of performance (currently on about 265bhp/295lb ft) with plenty more to come (a chip bumps that up to circa 330bhp with 400lbft) About the same mpg. Some argue that the Audi is a little bit vague on the steering. I wouldn't say "vague", but I would concede that it's not as sharp. The torque more than makes up for it though The handling can be sorted with some upgrades Bit like the Scoob really. IMHO, best of both worlds really, as I looked at a lot of cars when looking to change (including Legacys and Scoobs). I think I made the right choice for me.
If you mean back to Subaru, I honestly can't say. I do miss my Scoobysport sound, but that will be quashed somewhat with a Milltek on the Audi
I was lucky enough to ride in T5NYW's MY06 the other day, and TBH, the performance was amazingly brutal compared to the Audi (which is smooth). The refinement is getting there, but it's still not quite the same (sorry Tony! ) Don't get me wrong - Tony's MY06 was amazing and I really liked it (still not convinced about the front styling!), but his isn't a standard car by any means so it should be amazing
I think what I'm trying to say is that my car choice depends on my lifestyle, and basically, my labrador didn't fit in the back of my Classic
If Subaru release an STI wagon, I might consider it, but as there's nothing in the near future, I'll stick with the German Q-car. By then, I'll have gotten used to performance AND luxury: something Subaru don't offer (even with the Legacy)
I've still got a soft spot for Scoobies, and always will have, but the Audi is in a different league.

Had a V1 STI wagon,
Now drive a Mondeo TDCi (52plate)
Day to day i'm happy with the Mondeo, saves me a fortune as I only go to the petrol station every 2 weeks or so now, although my shell card doesn't do too well now!
Still enough torque for everyday driving and overtaking.
Only time I miss the scoob is on quiet sunday mornings, I used to get out of bed early for a blast round the moorland roads, no point in my mondeo.
I will have another scoob or similar in the future

I had (and loved) my classic Scooby for just over 4 years.
In the end it came down to two main factors;
1. Car not getting any younger, loads of new Scoobs about
2. Chav-appeal (harsh, but fair I think most will agree )
I traded in it for a Nissan 350Z, which is a totally different beast. Would I swap back - no way The Nissan is better built then the Scoob, and it's easily as quick. (although curiously it doesn't feel it)
Most of all, it looks soooo good, and I can go for weeks without seeing another
As other have said, been there done that, it was brilliant fun, but probably wouldn't do it again

Moved from a uk22b to an Elise S1. I wouldn't go back from an Elise to owning another Impreza. Much different car, much lower running costs and a much better image than an Impreza.
Can't escape the feeling that the Impreza has a bit of a low rent image these days given the low entry prices to ownership.
An yes you can use an Elise for everyday driving unless you need to cart around loads of crap/kids.

i went from the classic scoob to a rover coupe turbo. Also tried out 52 plate bmw 330d for a while (amazing car). The rover was crap and i'd never have one of them again. The BMW is an amazing car and in fairness i think thats the next car i'll go for but im going to have to keep the scoob as well because nothing else seems to compare to it. Other cars are definatly better in some areas such as build quality, economy, running costs etc. But at the same time there not a scooby and they don't seem to fill the space that they leave! I love my impreza now and will never sell it!

i think most sensible people will have done their evaluation correctly and made sure they made the correct decision about their new car - hence the many 'i wouldn't go back' comments. regarding the elise, i had a vx220 n/a and hated it, felt very underpowered. went to a subaru, much better! also, i think the elise image is beginning to suffer as the mark one cheapens. i've seen a few chavs starting to drive them round my way!!

coming from a 04 wrx, tek3 remap, full decat etc etc
don't miss the scoob, haven't looked back. Sure I'll be bored again and will look for something else although it wouldn't be another scoob unless they do something dramatic, done the rally car thing, onto the next

I traded for a R33 Skyline Great car, but for me, personally, not exactly what I was looking for...
Just got myself an STi5 type R & I'm looking forward to long & loving relationship with her
The skyine's up for sale now for anyone who fancies a change.....
