Running in and Oil Change

Running in and Oil Change
Done a search and am now more confused and have more questions than before.
Is the 1000 mile service actually required to be done at a dealer or can you do it yourself without affecting the warranty? (If it's just a change of oil and the filter)
What would be the effect of not running it in properly?
What is the recommended way to run in the brakes and tyres?
Also are there any Subaru specialists near London that can carry out services and stamp the service book? To be honest I wouldn't trust the dealers I have seen.

get subaru to do the first service atleast, they can void your warrenty if u dont. think its the same with the other services as well.
if you dont run a car in they you can fold/melt a piston, then u will have to have a rebuild at ya subaru dealer who u dont like already.
brakes; think its just be easy on them for 150 ish miles then u can see how good they are.

For me, the 1000 mile service included engine oil and filter change - check/top up brake fluid, check the disc brakes and pads, check the operationof lights, wipers, washers, check tyre condition and pressures - nothing to it but prob £80 at a stealer !

As a side note I have had bad experiences with both Volkswagen and BMW dealers too, very hard to find people that actually care about doing a good job these days, I have no doubt that these large dealers also employ the cheapest theyt can get too.
