I am considering buying a P1 in the near future, now i have a mate who has one and he brought it from a dealer and its been fine since.
Now his was a high miler at about 67k on a X plate, it had already had its engine rebuilt.
Now I am looking at getting one which has up to 40k on the clock. What do i need to be on the look out for apart from the condition of the car, tyres ect. I want to really get one from a dealer as i can p/x my car in against it so i am more concerned about the actual engine side of things like belts etc.
So can anyone help?

make sure it has a warranty ... and a Subaru one. Make sure it's had regular servicing from a Dealer and look for when the cambelt was changed. Although the milage is low, it's getting old so should have had the camblet replaced already. If not, insist the throw in that with the deal as it's expensive.

I was expecting that to be needed.
How often do they need changing? and is there any other parts like that which need to be replaced at about 6 years old

Consider asking for the MAF to be changed as part of the Deal as you will have to change it at some point in the very near future.
Costs £75 so should be no issue for a good dealer.

Pay particular attention to Andy.F's post!

Best to ask on all the boards and get an overall picture. Then you can make an informed decision on what's **** and what's not. As Daniel-S says, get some real-life experience from the P1WOC site.
Cambelt changed used to be every 45K, but Subaru extended it to every 60K. You can contact Subaru UK direct and enquire about the history of any car and confirm when/if the cambelt needs replacing.
Happy hunting
