Just got my first Impreza!
And I believe its RB5SCOTT's old car! The 2.5 UK300. What a beast.
Its still in really good nick with the signed WRX spoiler and black rims. I think I'm really pleased with it.
It drives well, but the gears/clutch are gonna take some getting used to. My only concern is the blue smoke coming out the rear!
Now I've had my fair share of rides, numerous M3's, Audi S3, Skyline GTR, but I'm a scooby novice. So what are the candidates for the smoke? Turbo? Head gasket? Am I going to have to remortgage the flat to sort it out??
Someone put my mind at rest, please!!

Thanks to those that have offered their opinions/advice.
To those who have just used the opportunity to take the p155.
The bottom line is I've bought the car - either help or don't. No need to kick me when I'm down is there.
Anyway, its seems the only thing to do is take it somewhere and get it checked out. The car had a £6k rebuild at ScoobyTek in September last year so I'll be both gutted and surprised if its a major thing.
That said, as far as I'm aware, ScoobyTek are no longer trading. Great.

if you're in essex get it up to xtreme scoobies. they'll be able to sort it out for you.

I would try to find a specialist non-Subaru dealer to check it out ASAP.
Tell people where you are and they can probably recommend someone.
I guess if you knowingly buy a smoking Impreza Turbo you've got to expect a certain lack of sympathy, but if you got it cheap then at least you should have some cash to put towards repairs.

You're right in what you're saying. Obviously I didn't know it was smoking when I bought it, but I must admit it was a somewhat rushed purchase. Fortunately it was a good deal so if it costs me then sobeit. Shame though.

when the turbo on my old astra gave up, it smoked on idle but not when actually moving. That was the rings, so got a recon tubby to replace it as the rebuild was not far off the price of a new one.
good luck with it anyway

It is an interesting motor. Its had a 2.5 conversion with a six speed STi box, twin plate clutch, 770 injectors, lightened flywheel, forged pistons etc running just under 400 ponies with 400 lb/ft of torque.
It certainly shifts (leaving a trail of white smoke!).

400bhp / 400 lbft!! that's going to be rather quick!!! could be worth being gentle with the loud pedle is you have to drive it until it's sorted out. give knowlsey a call at xtreme scoobies 01245 363623. cheaper than a main dealer and tonnes of experience. only place i'll take mine to be serviced. booked in for saturday as it goes.

In the meantime, I'll check the header tank. And if the water's clean...

if it's clean, chances are it's going to be the turbo or rings as people have said. is it running very hot? although i've had it on a car before where a breather pipe has become blocked it caused smoke out the back.
