Default FAO MY06 EU import owners

Hi, new poster, thinking of going for a 06 import from somewhere like Motorpoint.

I've done a search but alot of the threads seem to contradict each other.

Can I ask..

1. Where did you buy it from and how much?
2. What were the differences between your car and a uk dealer bought car, what extras did you need/buy? Did it have underseal/side airbags etc?
3. Any warranty issues?
4. What was the service like, would you recommend them?
5. Any problems with insurance?
6. Were you registered as the first owner?

Cheers

Dom

Hello

I would say the answers to all of your questions are actually in the threads you've looked at.Just have a look at the following thread(s)

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=510299

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=509334

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=509061

I bought mine from Allbrandsnew last year(MY'05 WRX),and from my own personal experience they were very helpful, plus at the time of purchase, with the extras fitted(sat/nav,swrt interior and bits and pieces,Tracker, climate control),i saved quite a substantial wedge over buying a similar specced'UK' car(enough to take me and the family to Canada for a month).
Insured thru Direct Line,no problem, told them it was an 'EU' import, listed the the same as a 'UK' car.

Undersealed
Side air bags
Warranty

Local subaru dealer didn't have a problem with servicing it,they even washed it for me!

hope this helps you out

1) Motorpoint - £16800 with cat 1 alarm + tracker
2) Got underseal, had to buy locking wheel nuts, no side airbags but much better seats.
3) No warranty issues
4) Service was good
5) No probs with insurance, classed the same as a uk car
6) Second owner

The problem with the side air bag seats is they are BLOODY awful, being far too wide (for the lardy US market..!). The bucket 'STI style' EU seats are far, far better and the fact that they offer better support more that makes up for the fact that they don't have side airbags..

One other interesting point, the recent 'incentives' by IM (Subaru UK) to boost poor sales of the 06 cars include a 5 year warranty (albeit on transmission only after 3rd year..!). Guess what, my 05 (EU/Cyprus- Alliance) came with a 5 year tranny warranty too..

1. Local Subaru dealer (Sti)
2. No extras needed - car came with CAT1, underseal, wheel nuts and even STi mats! If i wanted a tracker I had to pay extra - needless to say I declined as it made no difference to my insurance! Excellent 'STi style' Sti seats without side airbags too!
3. None - as UK warranty
4. Fantastic service and local to me (nearest supermarket was Hull). Much better to deal with than any supermarket and you can test drive too.
5. Exactrly the same as UK model with ny current insurer (Direct Line) although £50-£100 more with some insurers
6. I most certainly was!

1. Litchfields, costing £16,841
2. Came with a 3 year warranty and aftermarket Cat 1 alarm. No locking wheelnuts. I didn't have side airbags, but it was a no cost option either way
3. None. Just remember that apparently you cannot fit PPP and maintain your warranty (something I hadn't realised).
4. Service was ok, but was only interested in the cheap car. Can get most other things sorted at my local dealer. The advantage was having the T25 suspension, STi lip spoiler and Carbon rear spoiler fitted before I collected. No-one else would have done that.
5. No insurance problems. The car was treated as a uk car.
6. I am the first registered keeper.

Couple of questions myself:

1) Anyone noticed the 145mph limiter? Is that a MY06 or a Euro Import thing?
2) Mine doesn't have the small central sun visor that my MY03 had. Euro Import or MY06 change?
3) Mine didn't have the toolkit. Euro Import or MY06 change?

Jolley - IIRC PPP can be fitted but only in the country of origin. Not so bad if it is from Belgium. The small sun visor is not on my 05 car either, not sure about the 04 cars.

Thanks chaps.

Currently undecided over a new EU MY06 or a MY03 for about £12k.

Motorpoint have EU 06's listed for £14,999, curious how much this be with everything on top.

Cheers

That definitely justifies me going to the likes of TSL/PS then, much cheaper than exporting the car to Malta, just to retain the warranty

Anyone got a link explaining the changes for each model year, particularly interested in the 'MY03' shape one (i.e after bugeye but before latest shape)

Bought my from Motorpoint a week ago. All the same as Devowrx but all in price is now circa £15700 (inc cat 1 at £350).

Agree with the point made by several people about the non-airbag seats being better (but then I am a scrawny ******
