Default Fuel surge...does it actually happen on 1/4 tank?

Or is there somthing wrong with your car/driving?
Or are some of you just dreaming it?

Seriously, the only time I've had it happen was when the fuel tank was EMPTY!

And by empty, I mean that the fuel gauge had been on totally empty for 30miles and the fuel pump was making gurgling noises!

Ok, I know the fuel tank is shaped like a kidney, and relies on a "jet pump" thingy to pump fuel from one side to the other. So unless that is foobarred I can't think why people complain of it occurring with a 1/4 tank of fuel

I mean, below 1/8 on the guage or on empty I can understand, but is this tripe about keeping it above 1/4 just another SN Analism?

Right, I couldn't care less, so I'm leaving the floor open....offyou go -->

Because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I, however, have had fuel surge whilst the gauge was showing slightly over quarter a tank but only on the hairpin at Knockhill.

No, simple people dismiss what they don't understand. What happens in their minds is another story.

Well, I have run the tank below empty on LOADS of occassions AND NOWT HAPPENS!!!!

If you drive like a ***** maybe the fuel slops about more - so, is the question actually:-

"If I am low on fuel and drive like a *****, will I get fuel starvation?"

How does taking a corner on a race track quickly equate to "driving like a *****" exactly?

And beside, are you now changing your opinion to yes it can happen?

The Spec C I now have, has a revolving chamber fuel pump to help counter this problem. Therefore Subaru themselves know this problem can/does indeed happen.

On 1/4 of a tank, with sustained hard cornering, yes you can get it.

Pete - "Run the tank below empty" - so there was negative fuel in there? I assume you mean you've run the car when the gauge indicated below the empty mark? Try mastering the language before you launch into your tirades.

Saw your motor the other week in Bath - I recognised the plate. Looked and sounded nice.

I've suffered with 1/4 tank surge at Coombe with the PZero Corsas on. It happens if you're pulling enough lateral gs........ big deal.

I am with you - I have had fuel surge on a couple of right handers at Bedford when using slicks on a hot tarmac day and so had a lot of grip. This would happen as soon as the fuel tank hit around a 1/3 full.

I have this on video - the car shunts coming out of the corner.

More evidence of the muppet Lewis talking out of his very expert behind.

This is why pretty much all race cars have surge tanks of some sort as sustained fuel surge can cause the fueling to go suddenly very lean - not a good thing on a turbo car

Pete,

but you thought that your tank was nearly empty after using 40l of fuel - ignoring the other 20l swilling about in there

Yes it does, but not (afaik) during 'normal' road driving.

Next?

Not sure if this is fuel surge, when my my99 had 1/4 of a tank or less and i was cornering hard i occasionally it felt like the turbo had cut out. If this is fuel surge then sorry to dissappoint PSL but i had this occur on more than one occasion

Try brands hatch, exiting clearways accelerating round onto the main straight with just under half a tank. You are pulling some right corneringG for over 10 seconds.

This is a 50l tank on a MY95

He is the man who managed 70K out of his front brake pads, they could have sold him a sport, he would have been none the wiser as i understand his turbo is like new and full of cobwebs
