Welcome to SNet

Not being sarky, but my own personal opinion would be to not spend any more and save the money towards a turbo'd model later. Not sure how much you can get out of the 1.6 anyway.

Agree with corradoboy - by the time you pay for the modifications, take on board the possible additional insurance costs if you declare your modifications the costs could quicly outweigh the benefits.

You could probably sell your 1.6 and get into a late classic turbo - insurance and running costs permitting - for not a lot of pounds.

a 2.0 sport engine?

As said, tuning small NA engines the cost very quickly outweighs the benefit

Even if you get the engine in mate you will still be needing to upgrade the other parts of the car brakes etc.

try
walbro uprated fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator (power boost valve)
2 1/2" full decat and back box (jap style) increase street cred
powerchips ecu upgrade (you have to send ecu away though 4 days to a week max).
top quality oil, leads and plugs.

sorry but i dont know what else could be done with that engine these are just from the top of my head.
