Tried it for a while when it first came to York but the car sounded and felt a little rougher (I know my comments aren't scientific) than when I used Optimax, so it's back to Shell for me.

I was using it all the time but I may change back to Optimax as the price is gaining on Optimax. It was good when it was 92.9 against optimax of about 99.9 but at the weekend it was 99.9 rather than 101.9 of optimax - It probably isnt worth the extra couple of miles to get now to be honest.
Didnt have any problems with it though.

The Tesco 99 ron pumps around the Bristol area, have had there stickers changed to 97 ron..I asked why when filling up, the reply was "don't know" So 99 ron is still avalible in other parts of the country? or have they just not been changed yet?

Tried Tesco 99 for a couple of months / few thousand miles - appeared to get more of a kick when the turbo came in and went to the red line easier .....
After a couple of months I thought it was getting a bit rough so went back for a couple of tanks of Optimax - result; a much smoother and quieter engine but one that felt slightly less powerful
Now, is the fact it is smoother down to it producing less power.... or because the car prefers it and runs smoother when actually producing the same or more power than the 99 stuff ????
I will give 99 a go again .... I think ? Nothing like being decisive .....

I think 99RON is boosted with ethanol isn't it? Which has a lower calorific value than petrol. So although it should have increased resistance to knock, you might not make as much power, assuming that the ECU isn't pulling the ignition back on 98.

i agree that it feels crisper (but slightly rough) with tesco99 and smoother (but less pickup)with optimax my thoughts are it is retarding the ignition slightly with the optimax therefor making the engine feel lazy where as using tesco99 its advancing and making it feel rough (like the old days when cars had distributors and if you turned it slightly and advanced the timing it felt perkier but ran a little rough and slugish but smoother retarded)

I've used tesco 99 for a few months now and had it remapped with Tesco 99 and it did feel extremely fast. It was last week when I worked away and had no choice but to use Optimax. After 2 full tanks of optimax it did feel smoother but definately lost that response and pull of the Tesco 99. Less pops and bangs from the exhaust too with Optimax!! I'm sticking to Tesco 99.

I suspect (but can't prove etc) that the optimax has better cleaning properties, which is why people find the car tends to run smoother with it. If the ECU map can make better use of it, the extra little bit of RON will help. Having just moved, and with my favourite local supermarket being a tescos with 99 RON, suspect I'll be using it lots for a while . . . . but then again my car runs as well on SUL as it does on optimax (both are better than ultimate)
Will probably depend a lot on what fuel the car was mapped with, if it has been re-mapped (mine was mapped on 97 RON SUL, which is probably why it likes it!)

Terrible mpg on Tesco 99RON for me - really horrific!!
I always get 28+ on Sainsburys Super - Tescos drops me right down to around 16!!! I have given it 3 chances and each time the same!

tesco !! ..lol I have tried tesco ron99 in my my04 ppp and like most people on this thread find it much rougher than using shell optimax. so I prefer shell but don't like the thought that my credit card might be riped off in the process!
