I'll second that! It's what I have in mine - seems to be a popular choice.

Have a K&N in mine. I have cleaned it once and was careful not to put too much oil on as I believe this can cause problems. Been on over a year without any issues.

JDM STi Panel from www.scoobymania.co.uk or direct from Japan, if you can find a supplier.

Sorry to steal the thread a bit, but other than the ARC airbox are there any other airboxes out there that offer an enclosed cone filter or something similar?

A standard Subaru Filter will not cause problems - why would you not want a Subaru one?

The problems are caused by fitting non Subaru filters and induction kits - they knacker the MAF

Maybe because aftermarket panel filters are little less restrictive than standard Pete. And an STI filter is from Subaru IIRC.

God help the lad if he asked about an induction kit.

Group N Green Panel from TSL here, slightly reduces lag and gives engine a nice sound imo...

He was concerned about possible problems - if you are worried then I would stick to the proven standard

Induction Kits??? Well, yes, fine if you want your complete engine shagged!!

Just why would a K+N panel filter result in scored pistons ???

The filtration on the K+N panel is very good and I know there are performance gains over the OE panel.

I am about to conduct trials on a K+N panel reusable, HKS green foam reusable, and STi disposable. Unfortunately I have no means of testing the filtration ability.
Used properly there is absolutely no reason a K+N oiled panel should have an adverse affect on the MAF sensor. This seems to be a myth perpetuated on this board.

'Induction kits' on the whole; are pointless crap. Youll only need a cold air kit if your car is making serious horsepower, at which point itd be extremely naive to expect the reliability that you can from a standard car. Id fit a standard part or maybe a Green panel filter and Id remove the resonator from the inlet tract; its only there to help the car pass noise emmissions tests after all.
