Auto express only gave it 2 stars. Five star winner is the Talex Lite which I've just ordered to replace my ailing RA classic. Talex has all Mobile sites on its database that the RA does not have. Talex is £120 with a years subscription, RA is £200. no contest.

You have to view these things as "an aid" you can't rely on any of them completely and certainly not as far as mobile sites are concerned. They generally work very well at informing you of static and temporary cameras, providing you update them regularly. As for the handheld ones, well, it can warn you of where they might be, but I wouldn't rely on it completely. Lazer detection is next to no good as 9/10 times you don't have time to react to the warning; they should basically say: "You're nicked"

I read an article about it which gave it thumbs up but made reference to the fact that they will soon be illegal hence why the compact gives you the abilty to download updates/upgrades. Looks like they know something we dont (yet)

Agree lazer detection is a waste of time as you're already in the beam when the alarm goes off. Talex claim to have all the mobile sites in their database, as I live East Yorkshire, the land of the talivan, I shall be able to comment soon.

Yes these things are just an aid, I find the occasional (or depressingly frequent) reminder to behave quite valuable.

Cheers, Diccy.

Mail ordered mine from "www.talexgps.co.uk" this morning for 2-5 days delivery. Sorry don't know how to make it clicky. Give me a few days to get it up and running then I'll post my comments.

Cheers, Diccy.

I've got one - they rely on GPS - mine would probably be OK if it picked up a signal before I got home - and thats a 65 mile journey! Doh!

The Origin B2 used to be the best, is it getting old now?

Someone above said that Laser sensing is useless, but what about if you fit one of the (admitedly expensive) jammers under your number plate, working in conjunction with your detector?

I got caught with a tiny handheld laser gun last year and swore that I would get one of these gadgets. Causes an error on the officer's gun and then switches off. If you have an electric garage door opener, you have a legit reason to have it fitted also.
