Judging from all your threads so far, your b/f sounds like a bit of a muppet to me, I'd ditch him and find a new man if I were you.

Rad seal used to work for small leaks, or an egg .......... not sure if it still does the trick though.

Make sure the repair guy is corgi approved or it might invalidate your house insurance if it leaks at a later date and you need to claim.

Gary

don't put rad seal any where near your subaru.
it costs a lot of money to have it cleaned out of your engine.
the thing with ali radiators is you cant fix them you just have to get a new one.

Sorry for asking maybe what sounds like a dum question, but where exactly is the water coming from..??

is it the top of the radiator,

the bottom of the radiator,

is it from one of the hoses ...

what are the symptoms..??

If water is coming from the radiator fins, then only a new one, or a re-core will do. A new 1, im guessing is in excess of £200, i had mine re-cored for £110.

As you look at the engine from the front,

at the top left of the radiator are 3 hoses - 2 small, and 1 large one... that end cowling can often crack, and again requires a replacement radiator or some fabrication..

realistically, even if rad weld did sort the job, it would only be a temporary repair, and sooner or later the problem will come back again with a vengeance.

ive sent you a pm..

Actually I've changed my mind after your response, you sound like a bit of a muppet, perhaps he should dump you!

Rads can be fixed.. Plastic rads ends can be glued with the right glue, copper rads can be brazed and ally rads can be tig'ed..

Weather or not you want to is another question lol!

A new radiator can be had for £100 - not a lot and much easier than faffing around trying to fix the current one. Still think you should have fixed the leak before you had it de-restricted though

yes yes we know we should have now but like as long as he keeps water with him and takes it easy he should be ok. we are hoping to get up to api tomorrow just waiting to hear back from them.

If it's knackered - buy a new one and fit it yourself. It's a very simple job to do and not worth paying a mechanic for. If it overheats you will quite quickly ruin your engine.

i'd be a bit worried about loss of the pressure in the cooling system if its got a leak. wouldn't risk ranting it at all.. I had a leak in mine.. Called a company called arrow radiators in melksham and they had a new radiator to me 2 days later. only cost just over a hundred to. Just change the radiator and have piece of mind that its all ok. Thats probably the reason the headgasket had gone in the first place (if its the same car)
