Ticking noise on 05 WRX PPP
2 weeks ago was driving and i noticed a ticking sound like the tappets so i checked my oil and it was well below the Low mark. car has only done 7900 miles so phoned the dealer and he told me to top up so i put in about 1/2 litre of semi - synthetic and was fine but now the sound has come back and the oil level is around the full mark now
any ideas guys?

I have a 54 WRX, which has had a noisy head from new. Now on 23,000 and was dreadfull when it was freezing cold. questioned it 3 times at 2 main dealers and they say its not too noisy. If I didnt use the car for work I would get a nice 4" straight through so that I couldnt hear the top end!!! My other half has a 99 classic which has quiet valve gear (although she has got a 4" straight through zorst).
Anyone else suffer the same?

Are you saying this is the first oil level check in 7900miles? With a new car you have to expect some oil usage, so keeping an eye on it is essential. If it only took 1/2litre to bring it back to normal, then luckily, the level had not dropped too low. The turbo should be hardly audible when spooling up.
I would be tempted, at that mileage, to change to a good, full synthetic oil and see if there is an improvement.
The noise generated by seemingly identical engines can vary a lot. Both my son and I had 03 STi's, his engine was definately mchanically quieter than mine.

could be a stone or something in the tyre if it stops when you're stationary, or it could be the air-conditioning unit ticking over.
