Boost Solenoid
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does one do ??
I was thinking of gettin my 2003 STi PPP booked in with Bob Rawle for a remap and noticed on his site that he lists having 2 or 3 port solenoids fitted, would it be a good idea to have one fitted at the same time as the remap ??

The person who has to map your car is always the best person to ask.

hi all
when i driving at a steady 30 or 40 i can feel the car pulsing. As if im press the throttle on and off.
A user on here advised it that it could be a dodgy boost solaniod.
Were would i purchase a new 1 and would there be any benifit in getting an uprated 1.
its 1999 classic.
Thanks
Dave

Be aware that most if not all scoobies are a bit lumpy when cold, if it dissapears after a few minutes it won't be your boost solenoid AFAIA

Put simply, you have a mechanical wastegate actuator on the turbo to limit maximum boost which opens at roughly 5psi. However, if you open a valve (i.e the boost solonoid) to vent off the pressure that feeds the wastegate actuator, you can make the wastegate stay shut until a higher pressure is reached.
Pulsing the solonoid valve open and shut by varying amounts allows for different pressure to be attained and regulated, and thus accurate control of maximum boost pressure. (and thus the ticking/tapping noise so many subaru owners complain about).
3 port and 2 ports do the same thing. Just 3 ports does allow for more precise control of boost, if the the need is "really" nessercery. Bob will advise
