MY93 std downpipe gone just before MOT
Hello everyone,
The standard downpipe on my jdm MY93 saloon has started blowing, just a few weeks before the it's is due.
The car has no other cats accept in the downpipe.
I have heard on here that pre '94 imports do not require a catalytic converter, to pass an MOT, as they are tested at the higher, pre-cat emission limit (or at least should be).
Does anyone know if this is true or false? Do I need a cat in the system on my car or not?
Any help would be appreciated.
Rob.

Thanks for your help guys, I thank I will go with a decat pipe, and see how I get on. Worse come to it I'm sure I could patch up the original downnpipe, just to get it through the test.
Thanks again,
Rob.

A couple of years ago I MOTd my old MY95 WRX, and it failed on emissions even though I had put centre cat back on.
Scratched my head, and eventually found a post mentioning that pre Sep 95 imports (WRX, STi etc.) can go through the non-cat test, as there is no exact match on the DOT register.
Took this info back to testing centre, they tested it with the non cat test and it passed easy.
Don't know if this loophole still exists, but worked for me
