Default Alloy wheel cleaning products

Im sick of just cleaning the surface dirt off my alloys and leaving the ground in dirt on, so I fancy attacking the stuff which looks like its been there a while. There seem to be quite a lot of alloy wheel cleaning products in Halfrauds. What do you guys use and how good is it on brake dust which has been there a while??

Si

p.s. They aren't really that dirty I just cant get rid of the ground in bits in the corners!

The PoundShop do good alloy cleaners for, well, £1 a can.

Buy 4 cans - 1 for each wheel ... spray on, jet wash off - repeat until spotless ..... use a toothbrush in the corners.

£4 for the whole car.

Then WAX the wheels and the grime never gets ingrained again, it just dusts off!!

When you get them spotless, i suggest you use allow wheel seal by Autoglym . . To my surprise the stuff actually works to repell brake dust!

Dont use the cheap Alloy Cleaner ****!...it usually has acid init which is not good for the wheels if not taken off straight away..

Meguiars Hot Rims...great for cleaning also helps with the brake dust...

I use Wonder Wheels, but be careful as it is acidic and will make a mess on any bits that are not laquered (sp?).

Also recommend Auto Glym wheel wax. It really does work but it is worth putting a couple of coats on to make sure.

If using Wonder Wheels, water it down, as I believe that is what led to the bublling of my OZ wheels.
Meguiars Wheel Brightener is about the best (you will want to dilute it at least 4:1, possibly even 10:1) it is about the strongest stuff you can buy, and I wouldnt use it all the time, just the once to get rid of all the crap, and then keep them protected with wax etc.

I used Meguiars Hot Rims and the Meguiars brush(free with Evo subscription) and have to say I was mightly impressed.
Previous to that I was using a hard surface cleaner(water soluable)in a spray bottle,a toothbrush for in the inbetweeny bits and a small sponge for the surface, which was a tad time consuming, not anymore.

Thanks again for all the advice. I have purchased and used "Meguiars Hot Wheels" today and found it very good. Used in conjunction with a toothbrush it has taken most of the dirt off.

I second that, but I think you actually mean Alloy Wheel Seal . . .

Have a look in the Car Care section. www.polishedbliss.co.uk

Get them clean and use the Poorboys wheel sealant.

Question Alloy Wheel Cleaner

Hello Everyone,

Where can I get this Maguires? stuff & the Autogleam Alloy Wheel Sealer.

I have been to Halfords and, maybe I'm blind but not noticed these 2 bits of kit in there?

Thanks.

Thumbs up

I purchased the autoglem products at Halfords in Kidderminster last weekend.

Both the cleaner and spray wax did a great job on my daughters alloys and on the scoobys wheels.

The Poorboys stuff above shouldn't be used as a permanant cleaner as it is rather strong, see the info on Polished Bliss site. I've got some to get my wheels clean before sealant going on. Going to take the wheels off so the calipers don't get stripped too.

Does the crap just wash off as it says with this stuff?

Andy.

I use muckoff on my alloys. It works a treat and is non acidic so wont take the paint off the brembos either.

silver t-cut can be used to keep wheels in good shape, i have always used it on mine, also helps the dirt wash off

i have some light stuff at work that i spray on and simply rinse off with the preasure washer, its very rare i have to start getting in with the sponge or whatever, but mine are cleaned every few days
