Default ECU Advise

Just bought an ECU :

Z4 ECU with a ScoobyECU board
mapped by Pat Herborn
Off a WRX V-Limited MY'96
mods were induction kit, walbro 255 fuel pump, full decat, unequal length headers and water injection.

I have a 1994 WRX with induction kit and full decat. Ive been told it will be safe to use without a remap but wanted someone in the know to confirm this if poss.

Also is fitting just a case of unplugging one and plugging the other in or do i need to disconnect the battery??

Didnt mod my last scoob and havent had this one long so bit of a novice in this area, any advise appreciated...

If it was mapped to include the water injection, I wouldn't put it in a car without.
The ignition can be quite aggressive due to the water injection. The fuelling would also be effected by this.

I certainly wouldn't advise putting it in another car without a remap.

Adding water injection can actually reduce power unless the map has been adjusted accordingly.

I thought the water injection had a button you had to press to make them function so wouldnt be on all the time??

Also received this bit of info from someone who maps chips :

it should be okay, every engine is slightly different, but that ecu will compensate to an extent.
Dont you just love conflicting info

Id heed Scott's advice if I were you! In the mean time Id consider removing the ScoobyECU from the soldered in socket and running the Z4; which'll be a pleasant improvement over your original ECU. Prodrive used the Z4 for their PPP btw.

Theres an idea until i can get it mapped. Is it just a case of removing it carefully?? No soldering or anything else needed?

Sorry mate, can't do any mapping at the moment as my programmer has been damaged at work by some technicians doing an electrical safety test

Busy buying a new house too, at the moment, so can't see me doing anything in the forseable future.

If it's a standard scoobyecu type chip you can just pull it out of the socket although you might need to reconnect the J1 resistor. Do a search for ScoobyECU on this forum to find out how to install one and then just reverse the process.
Should be reasonably straight forward.

Intercooler water spray and water injection are 2 completley different things.

If it's from a car with 'intercooler water spray' and not 'water injection' then is should be 'fairly' OK.

It all depends how aggressive Pat was on the map. There should be some headroom there unless the owner told Pat to map to the limit.

It would be worth investing in a Knocklink though or get it checked on the RR or road with detcans. The latter could be done for about £50.
