Default NEWAGE TAPPETS NOISE

hAD THE CAR FROM NEW MY05 WRX PPP only done just over 8000 miles and can hear what sounds like my tappets ticking away - car was low on oil a month ago so i topped up but now the oil is fine and can still hear the noise, its really easy to hear when round the the town or out in the twisties when hedges are either side the car

anyone have any ideas?

cheers

Post this in technical if your after a response..

Out of interest, what grade of oil are you using and just how low did it get..?

Do you hear it when the engines properly warmed up or only when cold..?

You can tell if it's an injector by listening to each one with a long screwdriver (or extension bar etc as long as it metal) by touching one end to the heads as close to the injectors as possible and 'carefully' pressing the other to your ear (note handle end to ear..!) sort of like a stethoscope. If you do this to each injector you should hear a difference if one is noisier than the rest.

If you can't be bothered then get it to a dealer for them to say 'they all do that'..! Personally I'd take it to one of the more reputable scoob specialists first as they're less likely to fob you off.

it happens all the time after i have drove a couple of hundred yards, seems daft tho it should need a rebuild after 8000 (carefull) miles, i will ring subaru today hope they dont fobb me off and then something bad happens!

see this

I also read about mounts going hard with age and cold, does the clicking speed up as the revs go up, if not then could be the boost solenois as above

yeah the clicking goes up as the revs do also mine was an ex demo car and it has always had a sort of faster clicking noise when the turbo spools up, my previous car was an MY95 WRX import and that was the same power as my new WRX PPP but the old car feel much faster on spool up

what is the solenoid and whats does it do

cheers again guys
