And then have 3 new head gaskets @£500 each, and a new engine @ £1400..... just like I did

P1....
Seeing as you live in Spain or wherever, isn't it a bit pointless asking us what good second-hand buys can be had for that money, when the market is undoubtedly different over where you are.
Have you considered reading any mags, asking any local people, friends perhaps?

Stef.

Depending on how much storage space and how many people you want to move around, you could consider the Nissan 200SX.

Consider the Nissan Primera 2.0egt. It's the model shape before the new softer edge ones and is very underrated. I had one for a couple of years and it was quick, comfy and handled like it was on rails.

Happy hunting

For something with a bit of character, how about a Lotus Sunbeam?

I agree with blubs - the Primera is a brilliant car and very underrated. Apart from the Scoob, it's the quickest car A-B that I've ever had. Back in the summer, I had a tussle in it with a BMW 328i along a twisty country road. He was really trying - hanging it out all over the place - but couldn't lose me. The Primera just stayed really stable and glued to the road. Slightly different when we got to the straight, though...........

The Nissan 200SX is pretty good also. I usewd to have one and it was pretty fast, and handled very well. Veyr cheap to service (only the Nissan Micra is cheaper). 200BHP, RWD fun and frolics. pretty well specced too - leather, a/c, 10 CD stacker - all standard on the touring pack version. They depreciate a lot so you can pick one up for a reasonable price also.

How about a Citroen ZX16V. 30mpg, 155bhp, quick rack (2.5 turns), rear wheel steering. That was my last car and I would have another one if it wasn't for the Scooby. So balanced in corners, just drifted all four wheels. Very discreet as well. Only problem was its not that quick off the line at about 8 seconds to 60.

Pick a up good one for 2k.
